i'm trying to understand something about derailleur and shifter compatibility, so i need some help. i want to go with:
Shimano 9spd crank
Race Face narrow wide 32T chain ring
Shimano Saint M810 SS rear derailleur
Shimano HG-61 12-36 cassette
Retroshift XC1v

i read here that i can use a short cage read derailleur whit a 12-36 cassette (http://forums.mtbr.com/drivetrain-s...ong-cage-vs-short-cage-derailleur-284688.html), and i know i can use the Saint M810 SS with a 12-36 cassette (http://forums.mtbr.com/drivetrain-s...illeur-12-36-cassette-798070.html#post9548187) but i can't find information about the RD and the Retroshift compatibility.

also, if i missed something please let me know

Should work. Awfully expensive rear derailleur, looks like most places don't carry it anymore.
Make sure it comes with the correct link. Lots of stories of people getting them without the link and looking for it.

There is a special link Shimano calls a mode converter. Notice on the Fact tab on that site:
Largest sprocket: 28/36 teeth, depending on the selected mode
Overall capacity: 17/23 teeth; depending on the selected mode
Google "shimano mode converter", lots of info on it.

I think people got OEM versions of the derailleur without the mode converter.
I'd double check to make sure it comes with it.

For Shimano, 9 speed MTB derailleurs are compatible with 9 and 10 speed road shifters. I have done both.

For SRAM, I believe 10 speed MTB derailleurs are compatible with 10 speed road shifters - 9 speed are not.
