hello all.
I'm new to the forums and relatively new to the world of mountain biking.
I am looking to buy a trail bike on the tight budget of around $300. The bike will be used mainly for trail use seeing as how I'm in IL and there aren't any mountains. I am 5'11", 170 lbs, and 16 yrs old and i want to buy a bike from a LBS so i can get a perfect fit. my friend just bought a Hardrock sport and i would like something with about the same specs. there is a trek/gary fisher dealer near my house, as well as a Giant dealer. i have been looking at the following bikes.
Trek:
820 - http://americanbike.com/itemdetails.cfm?catalogId=39&id=422
3700 - http://americanbike.com/itemdetails.cfm?catalogId=39&id=423
3900 - http://americanbike.com/itemdetails.cfm?catalogId=39&id=424
GF:
Tarpon - http://americanbike.com/itemdetails.cfm?catalogId=39&id=1258
Giant:
Boulder SE - http://www.giant-bicycle.com/en-US/bikes/mountain/936/28397/
Rincon - http://www.giant-bicycle.com/en-US/bikes/mountain/935/28392/

i know some of these bike are a bit out of my price range but i would be willing to put in the few extra $ if the upgrade is worth it..
thanks

This would be my choice. Best bang for the buck.
thanks

the rincon was my first choice as well, but i went bike shopping today, and my giant dealer was selling Rincons for $390. i thought about it but decided with tax + additional accessories that it was a bit out of my price range..

i went to my trek dealer and sat on a 3700. the bike fit perfectly and the dealer was giving 1 yr free adjustment whereas the giant dealer was only giving 1 month..

so now i have a 3700. my only complaint is the spongy fork, but i guess i can upgrade when the time comes.

That 1 year free adjustment is a frigin sales gimmic, my cat does mine. Awesome choice your definatly going to be rippin some trails this weekend. :drumroll: The fork possibly needs a stiffer spring. You should go back to the LBS a mention the problem & see if they will give yo a smokin deal on a spring & swap. :cornut:

How about a little bike porn????
