the seller tells me the front is 1250 grams and the rear is 1450 grams. why are fatbike rims and hubs nearly twice the weight of regular mtb. the rims are twice as big but the hubs aren't?

The nice part is those wheels will actually turn because they are not unbalanced and inherently unstable.

In this case the rims are 3 to 4 times as wide as a typical 25mm to 32mm rims so that has a lot to do with how heavy they are. At that, all physics jokes aside, these are pretty light for 100mm rims, assuming they are not vapor ware of course.

I agree the rims are intriguing if they are real but with a seller rating of 2 and unknown hubs and front disc spacing I would pass. That and I've never actually seen an actual pic of them so personally I would pass.

NO, but it is significantly heavier, the rim is probably 800g at least, the hub is probably around a pound (normal mass-produced OEM rear hub weight), spokes are around 200g. Why is this a mystery?
