What do you think of the new Trance X, I am looking at getting it.

Looks like a great Enduro type 27.5. I'm glad to see more 27.5 options since the industry has all moved to 29.

Personally, the 64° head tube angle is not for me, so I'll stick with my 2020 Trance Advanced. I need more of a trail bike than downhill bomber.

Yeah that seems a little out of place compared to the rest of the numbers.
It's also got a much smaller shock for the same travel compared to a Reign 29 which struck me as a bit odd.
I own a Trance X 29 3 and I think its an amazing bike. It climbs like a goat and feels super stable on the downhills. If you have any specific question I can do my best to answer them.

Also the head tube angle is 65.5/66.2 rather than 64, unless there's changes for 2022 that I'm unaware of?

Five things you need to know about the new Giant Trance X
  • 27.5in wheels only (Giant still offers a 29er version)
  • 145mm of rear-wheel travel is matched to a 160mm travel fork up front
  • Built around an all-new ALUXX SL aluminium frame
  • A flip-chip allows you to adjust the geometry, altering the head and seat tube angle by around 0.7 degrees (this varies slightly across the sizes) and the bottom bracket by 10mm
  • In the low setting, the head angle is a super-slack 63.8 degrees, which is pretty extreme for a “trail” bike
huh, okay, I had to go to another country's Giant website to see the new bike. Having the Trance X and the Trance X 29 have such different geometry is kinda crazy, but alright. Seems like one of them should have a different name.

I don't think I could ever go back to 27.5" tires, but the geometry on it is pretty interesting. I kinda feel like my Trance X 29 is slack enough, though.

It was confusing enough with the Trance, Trance 29, and Trance 29 X all having completely different geos and specs. It's almost like Giant want to spin-off Trance as a sub-brand that covers 'downcountry' to nearly enduro.
It's been like that always. Generally 27.5" are longer travel with slacker angles, it's nothing new.

Best thing I did to my Trance 29 is to put Slackerizer -2° headset on it. It's sitting at (measured) 64° head tube and 75° seat tube angle with Pike 140 and DVO Topaz2 at 125mm rear.

Nukeproof Reactor and Kona Process 134 and 157 have the same head angle between the 27.5 and the 29" version. The Reactor 27.5 has 10mm more than the 29 version, but the travels on the Processes are the same 27.5 to 29.

Same goes for Polygon Siskiu, the medium is available in both wheel sizes and the head angle and travel are the same on both versions.

Since I would be riding the north shore, Squamish and maybe whistler I would want more of a downhill bike, but I still want something to climb on which it seems would be a great candidate. won't climb as well as other bikes but still will better than a downhill bike
They compare it to the Santa Cruz 5010 in the article, but the 5010 can’t be that slack, can it? I was thinking more Nomad, with it being that slack. And I’ve ridden both...I have zero issues pedaling a Nomad on cross country trails, single track, or anything else. And it’s stable as hell going downhill.

But it does seem strange to see the Trance X go from what it was last year - an outstanding bike - to a very slack 27.5, but hey, it’ll probably be a fun capable bike. Wonder if it’ll be as long as the Trance X 29, because I love how long that bike is...it climbs like no other bike I’ve owned on technical stuff. It’s stable going downhill and an overall great bike, BUT I wouldn’t call it “fun” and flickable...perhaps the new Trance X 27.5 will be just that?
The new Trance X is amazing and could be my dream bike I was waiting for all these years...

....if only the seattube was slightly shorter!!!

I'm currently on a 2016 Trance SX (160mm fork and 64.5° headangle) and the only thing that really bothers me is the long 490mm seattube, a 175mm dropper barely fits despite my long 34" inseam. A size L frame should have a <440mm seattube like Santa Cruz and Transition does, it would give room for a 210mm dropper post. How many more years till they figured it out, c'mon Giant, I'm getting old!!
this bike isn't replacing the trance x 29. This is in addition to that.

How did you change the rear travel of the Trance 29?
