New trails soon in SW WI!

Great news for those who aren't afraid of travelling a bit to get trail time! I just had a meeting with the local land manager here in Vernon County yesterday. We gave him our proposal for building trails on some county park land, and he was all for new trail development! He even suggested a few locations for trails to be built. Not bad. He even wants to connect the City of Viroqua with our nearest park with about 3 miles of singletrack. Oh to be able to connect town with ridable trails!

The main park we'll be working with is Duck Egg. Its just over 700 acres, has many natural features to play with and is literally a blank slate. Initial plans are to create a Harmon/Salem-esque trail off of the upper parking area with more advanced options taking off from there.

Additionally, we are allowed to build a small demostration trail at the counties most visitied park(the one that we could connect to from town), with the possibility of expansion there as well.

Finally, the trail potential of the Driftless is being realized! I'll keep ya posted.

Nice work ~martini~!

Keep us posted about the trail work days!
Way to go Marty! Maybe we can put together a little trail building slash trail riding slash camp-o-jama together next spring with the big whiskey crowd.

LMK,

That'd be sweet! I've got an app in w/IMBA for a trail building school too. Hope they can make it. The more we get done, the sooner we'll be riding. We've already got plans to be out hiking and pre-cutting the corridors. Get that done in the winter when its easy, and the rest pretty much flows together!

If there's a min. attendance required for the trail building course consider teaming up with Madison area nest year. By next year it will have been 3 years since the course was done here. There should be a lot of interest because of the park starting and continued progress at Blue Mound.

Good luck!
