In cooperation with King County Parks (KCP) and the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance (EMBA), I am pleased to announce an agreement that allows for the construction of a small connector trail between Root86 and Fern World. We have also been cleared to make improvements to the Fern World trail.

There are plans in the works for additional new trails that will be located north of the water towers, on KCP property (not Green Crow property).

Please note that this is a volunteer effort (KCP is not going to build the trails for us).
I will be posting some work parties in the near future.

Jim, I think the spacing in the park will be fine. Mike knows what he is doing. And, that area won't get logged like the Green Crow section will. And, unauthorized trail braiding on county property can be dealt with appropriately.

This is a good thing.

Now, if we can just really permanently block the stoopid short cut at the bottom of the climb by the cabins...

Need help - interested?

Just curious….
Is there anyone out there that is interested in working on some new trails at Tolt?
As mentioned earlier, EMBA has an agreement with King County Parks for the construction of new trails on park property (just NW of the water towers). I have posted three work parties on the EMBA site - one person signed up.

Rather than posting work parties, I am going to attempt to build an email list of those interested in working on these new trails. If you would like to be included, please drop me a note: mike [daught] evans [daught] bike [at] geeMale

Thanks,
Mike Evans

That sucks Mike. I think it has to do with the "trends in biking". Tolt use seems to be on the decline because apparently the trails have no flow, the place is confusing with all the trail braids and people get lost there all the time, and apparently it's just not Duthie. ;)

Off-list "local focal" groups have proven to work really well for the "gray" and not so gray areas, Tapeworm trails, Tokuls, Sawyer, PVCA, and other places we all know and love for example. Non-published work parties by people with personal interest in the area that, "just get 'er done". Most don't even get a full blow up post work party pictorial here. They just happen.

Easier to manage to because everyone on the list knows what's getting done, what still needs to be done and where the tool stashes are at any given time so all involved can work on what they can, when they can.

My guess is that you will need to fill in roots, build berms, and maybe some small gappers, and make sure that brake use is at a minimum and you'll get more takers...

I agree with this tactic 100%. Get folks that ride there / are already invested in the area to help and send out emails when you plan to be working on stuff.

Just a warning....some days it'll just be you out there and some days you'll get more folks than you know what to do with. It's just the way it goes when you're leading a project.

You guys are killin' me. :)

I likes my flow on too. Just not the end-all.

Mike, another option is to cross post over on the BBTC, er, EMBA, er, Evergreen list serve as this isn't the only place where people type and read versus "just ride". (Just make sure to wear your helmet first.)

Also, since this is "legit" work (YAY!) Posting info at the trail head will really help get those who actually ride there into that "clique" of people who really care enough to put the bike down for a while. I've had good luck with that before and got feedback even from folks that cleared a blowdown or did some other rolling maintenance. But, you may also want to be able to log all the hours as Woodway does at PVCA so the county knows it's bikers doing the work.

Would be even better if there was a "local" shop. But, the only one Carnation had moved to North Bend....
