I received a gary fisher mamba the other day from a friends dad and a few of the gears dont work. Since I didnt put any money to get the bike Im willing to put some into it and dont know what I need and what to buy. So any help would be great on what derailleurs to buy and what cranks and cassettes.
Thanks.

The first thing that I would do is get the drive train cleaned and tuned. You should be able to get that done at a local shop for $50. If you don't want to spend the money, you could do some searching on the site and learn how to do it yourself. But, the bike shop would be able to tell you if there is enough wear to warrant replacing any parts.

Have fun with the new ride!
You probably just need the drive train cleaned and tuned as rider70 said. That will most likely take care of your shifting issues.

If you want to learn the basics of maintaining your own bike I think this is one of the better free resources, BicycleTutor.com.

Good luck
have it looked at. a shop can tell you if you just need a tune up or new parts
take it to a shop and have them look at it. they can tell you if you need to replace anything.
as long as we are just repeating...

Have it looked at by a shop to see if you need to replace or just clean stuff.
funny shite el chupo. I was thinking the same thing as I was reading down the posts.
