I called up Titus TS the other day, asking about my odd deraileur issue on my RacerX29er. The cage hits the swingarm, and doesn't allow me to shift into the 11t cog.

Anywho, I was telling the guy at Titus that I'm digging the bike, but more travel would be nice.

He tells me that they have a new design in the works with 4 inches out back and a full carbon rear triangle. It's due to hit in November-December-ish. He told me the name, but I forgot. RacerX29er is going to be discontinued in favor of the new frame.

Can't wait to see it!

If this new full carbon rear triangle can be retro fitted to a 29er RacerX to give clearance for larger tyres with shorter chainstays, I'd be really excited, but somehow I think that's quite unlikely. Oh, well, I'm still a pretty big fan of my bike.

the guy I talked to at Titus told me it was an entirely new front triangle as well.

4 inches travel, hydroformed front end, carbon rear.

Use a top pull, bottom swing front derailleur, like the older generation 960 series XTR shown, with the clamp @ 1 3/4 in. above the BB shell. The cage clears the swing arm under full shock compression and there's no shifting issues with an 11 cog, even using a 40th big ring. Hope that helps.

As for a new RX - it will be a sad day when the current generation is phased out. There aren't many 3" travel XC 29er's being produced, and replacing the current design with another 4" travel carbon/hydroformed AL concoction smacks of "market forces" engineering.

... rear XTR derailleur. The cage right next to the upper jockey wheel contacts the chainstay/dropout when I have it in the middle or big ring. Well, it may do it in granny, but I never crosschain to that gear to find out. I already took out as much chain as I could to pull the derailleur cage around enough, and it isn't enough... its close but not quite there. I also fiddled with the B screw, but that doesn't make a difference. I hate to take a dremel to the cage, but I may have to resort to that. Maybe if I just put a 12t cog on the end.... I don't really think I'm going to miss that extra tooth taller of a gear.

I have a hard time believing I'm the only mufugger on the planet with this issue. I've actually seen this happen on a friend's RacerX 26er a few years ago. Not sure how she fixed it.

My FD is pretty much the same setup you have, but with a770 series XT. Works great/. I'm even running compact cranks with 20/30/42 rings.

Now that I think about it, I had a similar issue with my Stumpjumper FSR-XC when I built it a bunch of years ago. I fixed it by taking the derailleur knuckle apart, drilling a new hole for the spiral screw, and reinstalling it with more spring tension. Maybe that's my fix.

As far as the new RX is concerned. I like the 3" travel, but I think I would like 4" more. The rest can stay the same as far as I'm concerned. I like the wheelbase, the BB height, the STA and HTA.

4" would be fine, and be a bit more versatile, especially if the weight doesn't increase much. I'm not huge on carbon (not even the carbon link). It may be time for some to pick up the "retro" 3 inchers while they exist.

I think it will do well, though I personally would not buy one...primarily due to the carbon rear.

I did! $1100 for the frame at JensonUSA! They're gone, now, but chainlove has some complete bikes with a low rent build for $2200 complete, if they have any left.

... any excuse to post a pic....

Shadow style

Try using a "Shadow" style rear derailleur and a piece of sponge on the horst link, and that should solve you're shifting issue. I've never had a problem with the 11 cog using this arrangement.

My "obsolete" :rolleyes: RX.
