I have a shimano M341 crankset, and I want to convert to 9 speed. Can you recommend a 9 speed crankset that will still use the same BB? Also, as a noob I've never swapped out cranks, so what specialty tools will I need to do the job? Thanks!

There's a very good chance that you can still use the old crankset with the new 9sp stuff...unless the teeth are worn down too much...

Just use the crankset, convert everything else. If you run into problems as a result then deal with it, but you'll probably be fine.
