Just came back from a city council meeting. Where are getting a new skatepark by april/may 2006. It is being made with cement, and there is probably near 25 different ramps and jumps. i think one of the cool things is that the halfpipe you can ride up from one side of it and drop in.. and theres a couple setups for a wallride, some kickers. lots of good stuff. cant wait to ride it, its gonna be really awesome. the best part is, its right next to hanafords so we can bike over and get food all the time in like 2 mins. The skatepark is being built with city money (10,000 dollars) and a donation (20,000 dollars) so hopefully we will have one kick butt park.

Awsome, one good thing is you can say you brought the park there. It guys like you that attend meeting after meeting to make something like this work, awsome job, congratz

will 30K get you a decent skatepark? all the okay ones I have been to have been atleast half a million (i think)
i'm not even sure that 30K would buy you the cement... anyway, good luck, hope it is sick and works out nice.

no, its 30k, and that is plenty to get all the ramps. theres going to be near 20-25 ramps, all with transitions and stuff. theres a bunch of skates involved and our friends at the lbs are involved..

not sure how far 30K would get you though for a nice park... maybe out here in cali we have different standards
dude, stop with the nonsense. Im on the board of directors of a foundation to put a concrete park in my community. Specifically, Im the design/construction chair. Ain't no park getting built for 30k. You could barely build a wood park for that amount. Talk to any decent company in the biz...Grindline, Dreamland, Site Design...the quote is always the same... $25-30/sf. Doing some really tough math here, you are putting 25 ramps in a 1000 sf park. Really? why dont you come to Westbrook maine, and talk to all of the board, builders and designers and see what all of the quotes are. dont even bother using the whole "i have alot of posts, i think im gonna over rule this kid and say hes not cool and dumb" thing, because 1 thats getting old and 2 because I know whats going on because its MY town and WERE in on everything. I dont care who you are, you shouldnt be telling me how things are going to come out when you dont even know that the hell your talking about in a scence you dont know how our town is setting it up. He's right about your facts being wrong. It'd cost around 15-20k for a nice smooth flat concrete surface large enough for a small sk8pk. the area was already built for a section of hannafords, but they didnt use it, so we dont need to pay for that. the park isnt going to be like a big thing of all kinds of above ground bowls and whatnot like u see jbsox's parks. its going to have a halfpipe as the biggest thing, and just ramps made from cement like kickers and a stair gap, juust lots of things like that not a whole entire cement park.
tell ya what, I cant and wont come to Westbrook, Maine but if you'd care to set up a conference call with the builders and city hall (assuming they are a reputable company involved in this line of work - not your city's local contractors) and it turns out they can build a concrete park with 25 ramps for pennies on the dollar as you say, I will compensate you for the referral. I think you need to seriously consider the logic you are employing though, mate. How is it possible that every park design/contractor in the world operates at $25-30 per sf EXCEPT in Westbrook, ME? This has nothing to do with who has what posts, so cool your jets on the defensiveness. I'd love to talk to your board and learn exactly how they are planning on defying the economics that apply to everyone else. Feel free to email or PM me some contact information. If you are correct, I'd be happy to come back to this board with a formal apology. If you are wrong, are you willing to do the same.
