Hello!

Im currently in a market for a new rearshock (210x55) for my v3 santacruz bronson. I currently have RS superdeluxe select plus with megneg. I bought cascade link to my bike and apparently I cant get correct sag anymore without going max pressure on shock. Im not too keen on dodging this problem via changing back to normal can. Im kinda intrigued with going mayby canecreek coil or Rockshox coil with sprindex 610-690 spring. But Im also open or air shocks obviously. So I would like to know your thoughts / recommendations. Bike is 2021 v3 bronson carbon (last of the v3 models) XL and Im 6.2" or 189cm and around 95kg so +200lbs.

Me and my buddy had a great luck with Bomber CR. Inexpensive and well designed coil shock. Can be also tuned if needed.

In the end I had my Avalanched to get the most of my Stumpjumper, but it was fine even in stock form. Buddy has it stock on Reign and its basically perfect, but that frame is lot less picky than my Stumpy.

On the air side both the Mara Pro and new Float X have large air pistons and run at lower pressures, at or below body weight, so are also choices. Keep in mind, the meg neg has the transfer port further down, so it sags more and wants to sit at at 30-35% point. It is worth trying the stock can again.

No such thing.

Well I love my 11-6. However you need you detail your riding style, the terrain you want to ride and the feel you want to achieve to get any meaningful information that suggests what the best unit is for you. Otherwise its simply dudes recommending what they ride.

Does the extra SAG cause an actual problem though?

For me, I'm fighting too much SAG as well on a new setup and it's causing two issues. Pedal strikes and not enough weight on the front. The overall behavior is pretty good though and I don't think going up a bunch on spring rate will get me where I want it, I just need to correct the initial geometry. Point is, if there isn't a specific problem to fix with how it rides, SAG isn't all that important.

If it's pedal strikes, one item I'm testing to see if it helps is an offset bushing. Usually the offset bushing is used to shorten the shock and get a more slack head angle and lower BB, but I'm using it to lengthen the shock and do the opposite. It won't change the SAG, but it will increase the BB height like 4-5mm.

The front weight issue though could be addressed in a different way, such as 10mm less front travel, or a longer stem or flipping the headset spacer to reduce reach by 10mm (guerilla gravity frame).

I was thinking of upgrading the rearshock anyways and now that I hit a wall with the pressure I lost interest with fiddling around with it. Im at 35% sag with max pressure and pedal strikes can really become a problem. And since the shock doesnt have compression adjuster im going to bottom out like hell at bikeparks.

in the negative not the positive.
Megneg only has negative chamber correct? comes with 4 bands and the less you have the more negative you have and more pressure is needed overall. Positive chamber bands dont exist and are called tokens right? I think the bronson comes with a shock that is full with tokens since its not particularly progressive. Now correct me if Im wrong, but im quite sure of this since I have taken it apart couple of times myself :D

I'd remove the megneg and put a standard can on. That won't be helping with the pressure requirements. The less negative pressure the less pressure you will need overall.

I believe your understanding is correct.

If I remember, I'll reply tomorrow about my Rockshit/avalanche experience...

Fox is better.

I ended up with schitty suspension until I called DVO.

They are the way to go. Plus, you can adjust a lot yourself.

Of the ones you've listed only the RS SD Coil will do okay with that high leverage.
The CC DBinlines and DVO Topaz don't have enough damping and even custom valving is going to struggle.
What's the leverage ratio range where you'd recommend the Topaz? My frame starts at 2.89 and ends up at 2.29 and i'm a light rider at ~65kg.

Trying to decide between the Topaz, or maybe finding a cheaper Super Deluxe air takeoff and having it tuned by MST. Or just getting a new Super Deluxe air, it's the same price as the Topaz.

@ 65kg you shouldnt have problems with any shocks :) when you get more near 100kg it can become a problem with some bikes.

Not sure if it's the bike, shock, or both, but currently I have a Deluxe Select+ (Radon Slide Trail 8.0) and my problem is that at 155-160psi the rear feels pretty plush, but I blow through the travel too easily. If I go higher to 170-175psi, the rear of the bike becomes harsh, chattery, and just feels weird when pumping. Not entirely sure how to resolve it TBH. Or maybe that's just simply how life is like with 140mm rear travel? No idea.

depends on your weight and riding as well. I had a DB inline on a high leverage bike and it was great. 77kg I don't think at your weight you would have any issue.
