Just recently built this up. I'm a huge fan of steel and refuse to ride anything but if it has one gear. So far, I'm VERY impressed with the frame for the price. It is fairly heavy, but I'm no WW and it is a SS, it's not supposed to be svelte.

Nice ride! I love my Origin8 Scout29 too. It's a slightly heavy frame, but you can get it kinda of light. Going rigid would shed some serious grams. But not everyone's a masochistic MTBer... Don't blame you for wanting some squish.

nice one - weight ? specced at 6.2lbs ? only 1 knob of butter more than a karate monkey. and under a 2lbs over a niner 853 MCR - me I got 20lbs round the gut to balance things out.

rear disc

Do you have issues getting the rear wheel out without having to unbolt the rear disc caliper?
