Pick up Paul B's "Mountainbiking in Arizona" book (avail at most shops in arizona). This will help immensely with picking and finding rides.

there are lots...

You should try any of the county parks, they all have good trails. I am going to be teaching my wife at McDowell Mt. in the upcomming weeks. Of course there is some driving involved.

i am making an assumption here...you live on the northwest side. having said that, you could try White Tanks regional county park. it has several loops so you could tailor make a ride(s). the smallest loop is very easy and only about 2 miles or so long. the next loop is about 4 miles long(bypassing the technical section)the next option, bypassing the switchbacks and tech section, is 5 miles long. if you do both tech sections you are looking at about 7 miles. it costs $5 per car to use the park one day(i get an annual pass for $75).

for free you could try the trail 100 area. T100 starts at 7th ave near mountainview and heads east all the way to Tatum near tomahawk, about 10 miles one way. you can access T100 on north 7th st.(just south of T'bird)and go east or west. there are other trails in the area. or you could access at Dreamy Draw park off Northern, and go east or west. but my favorite access point is 40th st. south of Shea. you can go east or west and there are a lot of trail options besides T100, just do some exploring and have fun. the other thing i like about the 40th st. trailhead is lots of other trail users in the parking lot(so less chance of car break-in)and they have a restroom where i can change out of my sweaty clothes before heading home.

if you would like to meet for a ride let me know. i will be riding somewhere next sunday(busy saturday). i ride early in the a.m. about 6 or so. just P.M. me if you are interested.

Rita
p.s. my screen name tells you that i am a bit slow. if you are into speed, well, you will be disappointed. ;)

I am new too. Just about a month. I'm also looking for some girls to go riding with. early morning is the best, on the weekends.. I have only done Dreamy Draw, but looking for some others.. I have a book that shows all kinds of trails, with different skill levels. There are some for the state, and lots for the all parts of the valley. I'm downtown, so I would have to drive anywhere, besides Phx mtns.. not a problem. How about Papago Park?

My younger brother and I rode t-bird until we could do it in our sleep. It is pretty much our backyard so we were up there often. whitetanks is fun and kind of close. my new fave is dynamite out in north snottsdale.

Pima & Dynamite is a great place to ride! Fast & smooth, no huge up hills, almost no rocks! My ride buddy (Flyinturbo) and I usually ride there three times a week and always after dark, atleast in the summer! I (we) would be glad to show you some trails in the area. I will PM you with contact info. :)

Yep, since you are on the west side, you could hitch a ride over to my side with Jeff (I live 2 miles south of Dynamite on Pima) and we'd be glad to show ya the trails at P & D.

That goes for anyone actually... Jeff and I ride upwards of 3 evenings per week and like to travel places on the weekends (Flag, Sedona, Globe(when the mtn is open) and anywhere else that has great trails!). We're always open to goin with other riders. Oh, and Jeff knows how to use the cell phone to dial 911 and we've got plenty of experience with helicopter evacuations!! (*cough* MIKE*cough*)

east valley

I'm here in chandler. My main riding is south mountain and papago park. If there's going to be a group ride at one of these i'd love to be on the guest list. I've got a buddy that we do these two areas all the time. Name the time and place. My email is [email protected]. We are not advanced, fast riders so if your slow great- if not- i'd like to get better.

wanna ride?

I know mornings probably don't work for most, but i'm taking out a first-timer to papago park on wednesday the 18th at 6 am. anyone interested let me know or just show up. We meet at the covered picnic tables across the street from the zoo. (west of the zoo)

Also i was at sunrise this weekend and met up with some xc guys from here in the valley who were interested in setting a date for a group ride up there. None of us were riding downhill sleds or extremely fast riders so we kind of buddied up and found trails together. If anyones interested we were thinking around middle-to-end of september. let me know

Options . . .

I guess first off, you should start a new thread for new topics (I've been involved in some serious "thread jacking" and it would be better to stop)

I'm a fat, old, slow dude, and I would be hip to hooking up for a Sunrise group thing sometime mid Sept. or for that mater XC type riding on T100 for night rides.

Also there is another "legal" night ride at McDowell Mt. park Aug. 27th if you want to get together a group of riders for that one (I'm not a speed demon, in fact I'm kinda slow, esp. when it's hot out, so maybe an "easy pace" group or something)

I thought it might be better . . .

if you started a new thread about your ride at SoMo and Papago and you would have a better response.

I kinda figured that most people looking for folks to ride with aren't going to look under a thread titled "new Mt. Biker" and filter down to the twenty something response to find a ride. But hey what the hell do I know, It's all good.
