New Mexico "eco-terrorist" sentenced today.

Michael Delongchamp was sentenced today for placing boobie-traps in the national forest. He got 25 days in federal prison, $4,100.00 fine, two years supervised release (aka parole/probation) and has to perform 150 hours community service. The judge took into consideration a dozen letters written on his behalf and lowered his sentence due to that. As well as his lack of prior crimes.

I guess more hikers and bikers should have written letters too.

In other news the leader of the Sierra Club in New Mexico was struck and killed by lightning this weekend, while in Colorado. Hmmm, God is a mountain biker?

I'm not familiar with sentencing to know if that is High/Low/or just right, but it's enough to put a serious dent in his life. I think the 25 days in federal prison will give him plenty of time to contemplate his actions. All told, it sounds like a reasonable sentence, though perhaps more of us wheeled locusts should have written in ;) .

I know that was tongue in cheek, but let's not go there.

Are you going to be ready to ride big miles at GITA?

Hasta,
Dr.F.

Sorry, it was in poor taste.

No, I'm not ready at all. Finances are really tight and I haven't been able to save up for new rims. :-( My poor bikes are hanging on the wall and mad at me.
fed pen???

I doubt it. You have to commit a federal offense to go to a federal penetentary. Thats generally a year sentence min. Sounds like he was convicted of a misdemeanor. Likely he'll pass his sabbatical in a low security county jail or "honor ranch". The one I visited for a week in LA county was pretty nice. We spent the night in a 40 man barracks, sat under spreading oak trees on a nice lawn all day, ate at picnic tables, etc. The 90 days I spent further north in the co. jail near sacremento was rougher. A 6 man cell with 1 tiny windoe shared with street fighters and drug heads. I DEFINATELY was scared straight by that one! Hope that joker gets the worst available. Maybe he'll get some sense beat into him.
Or Maybe...

He'll get struck by lightning too! Save some taxpayer dough...

SORRY but I just Had to go there
To be blunt...

Yes FEDERAL prison. I spoke with people that were at the sentencing. All of them say that they guy was sentenced to federal prison. This crime was committed on federal land, us forrest service land, and is a federal crime. This is also a felony. He is also not allowed on ANY U.S. Forrest service land EVER!
Wait, there's a new Mexico?

OMG, that just made my day. :D
Aah, a few days in federal 'pound-me-in-the-ass' prison ought to do this guy some good.

I guess you didn't listen when your grade school teacher told you "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all".
