Hi, my name is John and this is my first post. I got my bike stolen a month ago and now I'm looking to buy a newer, much more beefy bike. I have pretty much settled on the Yeti ASX. Before my bike was stolen, I was progressing as a rider and wanted to get more into freeriding, but probably not too big any time soon. I was wondering if you all think this is a good brike to progress with. I consider myself a pretty efficient biker but wanted to go bigger.
Another option i was thinking was a Banshee Chaparral. I saw one on ebay, fuly built with a Gucci spec kit and the manitou slider plus. Its brand new and listed for 1950 shipped. it's too bad its one size too big for me, but i can't seem to wonder why its not getting any bids or hasnt been bought yet. seems to be an amazing deal and spec'd very well especially for the price... its a much better deal than im getting for the ASX i hope to get soon.
well, just wondering what u guys think, and wanted to introduce myself.

I absolutely love my AS-X. It's built up with a Boxxer, MRP, and other race-oriented parts, but it only weighs ~38 lbs, it climbs extremely well considering the components, and it rips it up at Whistler. It sounds absolutely perfect for you.

Never ridden the Yeti but that Chap w/ the slider is a hard bike to beat.

You'll hear a lot of guys on this forum whining about the weight of the Banshees but I don't think those guys have actually ridden one.

Banshee = Beefy

sounds like the asx will be a good bike for you, banshees seem cool too. from what djrider said it doesn't seem like the bike is going to be hitting the scales at 32 pounds. good luck with your search.

yeah .. thtats what greg at adrenaline bikes told me.. im gonna do a fair amount of climbing with the bike.. hopefully go to big bear in a couple weeks too...
Hey bro, do yourself a favor and check The Path in Tustin, not far from Adrenaline. It's a really good shop with knowledgeable riders that work there.

I've shopped at Adrenaline too, it's a good, but a little quirky shop. They have helped out before and I'll continue to purchase stuff from them, but I would not feel comfortable buying a high end bike from them....I don't mean to bad mouth them... i"m definetly grateful they're around. It's just The Path seems much more clued in.

Just my $02... I have no connection to The Path other than as a customer.

Btw, welcome to MtbR board!
