Riding at New Malones Saturday, June 24. Tailgate style, pack some munchies and some drinks and come out for a nice day of riding, hanging out.

Many trails to choose from, probably starting out on angles creek loop (4 mile) then to buck brush loop (rocky and technical) for another 4 miles.

Trails are nice and 100% singletrack. Perfect ride for everyone, so come on out!

Any Takers? Probably meeting around 9 AM to beat the heat and ride for a couple hours then eat some lunch and hang out.

--There is a bike shop nearby for any needs too.

Gonna be hot!

It will be really hot, even by 9 am, so make sure to take lots of water. One week ago a good bit of the Buckbrush Loop was inaccessible due to high water, and the little loop off the the bottom of Carson Creek was also under water. But the lake has finally started to go down a bit so you may be OK. Most of the tall grasses have fallen over and there are only a few very short gauntlets of thistles left (not enough to warrant leather gloves like I wore last year). But several parts were mowed recently so perhaps that has continued. I may get there tomorrow morning so I'll report back then. Maps, photos, and too many videos on my site.

Hey I am only 30 minutes away and yeah I was out there yesterday, I loved it. I rode from 11 30 - 1 pm, and yes it was hot. I rode the beginning of the buckbrush loop but got cut off at the trail ending in water haha. Instead of riding it, I turned around and rode the angels creek loop twice. You said you might be out there tomorrow, I could make it out there to ride tomorrow too, but I am not looking for tower climb or anything too tech :) as I am still beginner ish.

Well, so far it's me and Melissa, fuenstock hopefully you come out!

I will be out there definately no matter what, so will Melissa, so hopefully we catch more of you out there.

Meeting time is at 8 AM, We will ride until about 12 pm, then eat some lunch and talk mountain bike talk :), and possibly ride a bit more, but by then I am sure the heat will have gotten to us and we will be tired.

Come out!

I went out early this morning and it wasn't too hot by noon. Most of the trails have been mowed, just a bit of high grasses on the west side of Angels Creek and scattered here and there. Only a few very short gauntlets of thistles here and there. Water has gone down slightly. Still can't do Buckbrush clockwise (but maybe by Saturday). But if you do it counterclockwise you can get a bit more than half way and then turn around.

Try going up the switchbacks. The first time I saw them I said "never". But one day I made one and shortly thereafter I started making them all. It then became a challenge to ride to the top without stopping. A few are easier than others and once you figure them out all but one (3rd from the bottom) are almost easy. It then took me a long time to try going down them and I still can't do the 3rd from the bottom without cheating.

What are you talking about? Yes you can ride Buckbrush clockwise or counter clockwise. I did it with my son two sunday's ago.

Just skirt the water a bit and your back on the trail. Then go south, up the deer trail, it's been very used by the locals by now, until it drops you on the original trail, free of all the water.

Out of date info

Much has changed in the past two weeks. I even check the daily water level reports. If you go clockwise, as soon as you come down that steep part next to the tree, the next very narrow section, with a high rock wall on the right, is under water. And there is no way around it. Your way would allow you to do some of the loop though.

Hello,
Just got in from the Bear creek Solstice ride, had a good time. I will try to make this Malones ride if I can. I have a friends b-day to celebrate the night before, so if I don't wake with to big a hang over I will be there.

yeah sorry I always spell it wrong it is New Melones.

Mileage will vary I plan on doing around 12-15 miles +/-. There are many trails that are around 4 miles each, and you can connect many for 8-12 mile loops but I plan on riding timewise rather than milewise.
