Hi all, got about 100 miles on the new Hope Pro2 hub and on the last ride had 3 or 4 occasions where suddenly (in high torque situations) i would lose all resistance accompanied by a noise like the cassete lock ring being tightened. deffo not a gear slipping noise.

on the last occasion the loss of drive was so sudden and pronounced i was sure id snapped the chain.

all parts are equally new and im not getting any misshifts so am pretty sure its the hub slipping. anyone else experienced this?

hopefully if the shop take it apart they will see evidence of the slipping?

cheers!

Weird  I've had a pair of Pro II's since their introduction and they've worked flawlessly. Without actually seeing the hubs and experiencing the problem I can only guess at what maybe happening. If I was you (or your LBS) do the following:

1) contact HOPE and explain your problem...they will probably be able to help you.

2) Download the HOPE hub maintenance instructions and pull that sucker apart (or have your LBS do it) look for the following things:
- are all the pawls springing into the engagement position, or are they sticking?
-are all the pawls there?
-if the pawls are present are the leaf springs present?
-check the condition of the engagement ring... does it have all twenty-four teeth? Are they worn?

Beyond that I can't offer much more without actually seeing the hub.

Good Luck

cheers, will deffo take to lbs, not really got time anymore for that kind of work in the garage. out of interest, rotating teh wheel slowly and listening reveals that the pawls are catching at odd intervals, sometimes they are regular, and sometimes miss a beat. that must be some of the symtoms of the problem.

Something about early parts

I read somewhere about early FW's have a problem "cracking" the ring that the pawls run against...might even been at the Hope website

Its a 100% warranty issue.. you need to contact Hope.. they are really good..
