Took delivery of a new Campeon road frame from the good folks at Salsa this week. I'm not what you would call a pure roadie (I use mountain pedals, and sometimes I even use a CamelBak!) :D But I DO spend a lot of time riding on the road, so I'm geeked to get this new frame.

Waiting on some parts and then it should be built up in a week or two. Hope to post some more pics then. Ride will be a mix of Ultegra, and 105 with a Shimano R700 compact crank and Bontrager Race wheels.

I think it would be a good time for folks to post some pics of their Salsa road and CX frames. That's just my 2¢ though.

Later.

Yo Jason -- Lookin' good brother! I bet you're stoked to have that beauty in-house and are jonesin' to get it built up. I just got word that my new La Cruz disc-specific steel 'cross bike is going to be shipping out soon.

Here are a few pictures of the closest thing I have to a road bike, my Chili Con Crosso, on which I was able to win our masters 35+ state 'cross championship on this past season (it was totally the bike). Those of you who frequent this board probably get sick of hearing me say this, but the CCC is by far my favorite 'cross frame ever. I'm a big Scandium frame fan in general, and I think the crew at Salsa really nailed the balance of stiffness, compliance and overall "feel" of the frame perfectly on the CCC. If the Campeon performs at anything near the level that the CCC does (and I have every reason to expect it would), you're going to be an awfully happy guy.

2008 is gonna' be a great season! Congratulations on your spicy new ride Jason!

Cheers,
MG

Congrats on the new ride Jason. As always, a great looking paint job.

Hey MG, what size do you ride in the CCC? I know you ride a 20" in the Dos. I have been trying to put together the scratch to get myself a CCC. Bummed out a bit though, as they are sold out until mid March. I ride a 58cm XO right now. I was thinking a 55cm CCC would be the way to go. I'm about 6' with a 35.5 in inseam. Let me know what ya think.

Hey Big29 -- I ride a 55cm CCC frame, and I suspect you'd ride the same. I'm about 6'1" with roughly the same inseam, and feel like I fall right in the middle of the 55cm's effective size range. If you're on a 58cm XO, the 55cm CCC should be dead-on correct.

As far as the wait goes, all I can say is that it'll be well worth the wait. The CCC is an awesome ride.

Thanks for the info MG. Now I wish they were in stock!! Sounds like it will be mid-March or so. I was finally ready to pull the trigger... and now I can't get one. Patience is tough for me.

Hold on Big 29. The wait will be worth it....or if you can't wait, the new La Cruz's will be in stock in about a week or so. Same geometry. Steel. Disc only so you can use your old 29er wheels.

Seriously though, the frames are almost done. I the True Temper fork shipment notification yesterday. Hang in there.

Thanks Jason. I may have just had a damper put on my plans... I just discovered that my part time job didn't take out any taxes all year. Hopefully Uncle Sam doesn't hit me too hard and I can still scrape up the cash for the new frame. Keep me in the loop when they are coming in. Too much snow to ride here right now anyway. Ride-n-Smile!

Finished Campeon!

Super geeked with the way the bike turned out. I could NOT be happier. OK, that's a lie. I could be happier if my cracked Bontrager wheel wasn't in the shop getting warrantied and the roads weren't covered with slush! In do time though.

I'm looking at that same framset. How tall are you? What size did you get? What length stem are running?

I'm just trying to figure out if the 53cm will be big enough for me.

I'm 6'1" and went with the Campeon 51cm (which = 58cm reg. size). I almost went with the 53cm and I'm sure I could have made it work, but I have more options with stem height etc., with the 51cm. Not sure what my stem length is. I can double check that tonight.
