I have a new 36 with the grip 2 dampener. Biggest thing I noticed after the first couple days on the bike is that I see no physical effect on how the fork compressed between open and closed high and low speed compression. On my older lyric this was super noticeable and full high speed would effectively lock out the fork.

I also only have 7 available clicks of high speed which seems low based on Foxes online information.

so is this normal and I am a pleb? Or am I warrantying a brand new fork?

I think available clicks should be interpreted as available positions, so from fully closed you have 7 available clicks, plus the one that is fully closed. Mine is the same.

Edit: Just confirmed that my dials do almost nothing either. Luckily I'm happy with close to zero damping, so to me the fork is perfect. 😅
