Which 66 did you ride and like? The 05? What didn't you like about the Pike?

New fork for my DC pitbull
Sorry for this type of thread, im sure you all hate them by now but require a few opinions.
I have a DC pitbull, currently fitted with a (scarely bad) RS psylo, its not the performance, just flexes like a biatch.
I like the way it rides at near enough 130mm travel, so was thinking of gettign a fox vanilla. But then again i want soemthing stiffer, eg with a 20mm axel. I also fitted my mates pikes to it, and used the uturn to change the ride of the bike, adn no matter what hegiht it was at i didnt liek having the fokr on there atall, even when it was near 130, and even at most the otehr increments of travell.
I also fitted my mates 2005 66rc, and loved the feel of it, the burey forked gave me so much confidence, it felt niec to ride, after i got used to it, which didnt take long, and hour or so of riding. This brings me to the conclusion that i want a longer travell fork, but sometimes i want a 130 fork, so i was thinking of getting a fork with travell adjustment, eg the pike, or the z1 sl. But as stated before i hated the pike, and the 32mm stanctions on the z1 are a little small ( i know they are plenty strong enough but burly stanctions add alot of confidence) I would be happy with some 66's but the main reason i am not buying them is purely because of the weight. What im confused about is the heght of the 05 66's. I know that they are taller than all other 150mm and the current 66's so if i want a fork to ride at teh same heght as the 66 what should i get, if possible lighter than the 66 too, but if not no worries. I dont want an 05 66 because three of mates have one and its not very original.
i have moved away from wanting a 130mm fork as i would like to take on some bigger things, eg drops and DH, and i can build my old bruiser up with my psylos wound down so they dont flex and use this as a street rig.
Basically what im asking is what long travell fork out there has a decent ride, isnt shy of a pounding, and ideally doesnt way a tone. Was thinking of the fox van 36 or the travis 150's

yeh i rode an 05 66 rc, the pike felt nice and plush, wasnt the fork id idnt liek the handeling just felt un predictable and dodgey, was a mixture of too slow and just generally not being responsive and efficent
Sounds like a bad setup issue. None of these qualities you mention are what I would describe the Pike as being. In anything, the 66 is less efficient. You should give the pike a second chance if you want lightweight and burly. The new Lyric might fit the bill, also. There ain't anything flexible about the good ol' Z1. yeh i agree with what you are saying, thats why i found it strange that the pike did not feel so great adn i disliked it so much. i will try it again but there was just soemthing baout it i did not like.
regarding the old height issues of the 66, what fork for the 06 range would be roughly the same axel to crown height as the old 66's? how would you rate using a fox 36 or maybe a 170mm 66 on my frame ? thanks alot =)

I am not familiar with DC bikes. I did a quick search and came across a frame that looks like an urban/dj. The old 66RC is 36.8mm taller axle to crown than this year's 66. It is even taller than this year's 888. You would have to run this year's 66 at almost 187mm (not possible, obviously) or the 888 at 191mm to have a ride height of last year's 66 at 150mm.
If the frame is what it looks to be, I can't imagine riding urban with a fork that tall up front.

You got any pictures of the DC? What color you got? I love the color options you can get with those, very cool company. I still might be thinking of getting a Pitbull next year. How do you like the frame?
The 66SL sounds like a good option. Travel is adjustable via negative air pressure, so it's more of a set it once where you want it, not an on the fly switch. Marz. claims it goes from 170-150mm, but there are people here who've gotten 'em a lot lower than that. You could also get one of the coil sprung 66s and if you want to lower it a bit, get Nemesis Project to hook you up with a kit to drop the travel to go with your urban bike.
'07 forks look good too - almost all makers are coming out with adjustable travel "QR" 20mm SC forks in the 110-160mm range, great for HTs.
The frame is primarily designed for Dj, street, and 4x, but its strength adn versatility allos it to be pretty much what ever you want, it cna take a hell of a beeting and is warrentied with any fork upfront, even dual crowns. Im building my old trek bruiser up to take over the street role of pitbull at the moment and im buiulding it into a hard hitting machine.

The Talas' have had issues with loosing travel. The Vanillas have been pretty much flawless from what I've heard. I'd still go with a 66SL for versatility though.
yeh thats pretty muvh what im thinking, but im not to keen on their wait. The main thing that attracts me to the talas is the adjustable travel..
