Just in general, the Float X is going to be a little more lively and poppy, the X2 more syrupy and planted.
that sounds like an endorsement for the X?Just in general, the Float X is going to be a little more lively and poppy, the X2 more syrupy and planted.
Not an endorsement. Different riders will prefer a different feel. Some slow old guys like me like the barcalounger, plow through anything, young aggressive riders often want a poppy, less dampened feel as they jump from place to place. The Float X because of its more traditional design should be easily revalved if you don’t like the feel. I would expect Avalanche and likely Vorsprung to offer tunes in the future for them.that sounds like an endorsement for the X?
someone in the SC forum also share this which is helpful. Anyone else have experience with both?
AFAIK, tuners are generally not touching the Float X and not able to do much with it, because of it's wacky valving where compression adjustment affects rebound significantly with the opposite also being true. I think Avy can do a little for it, but he'll try to talk you into dumping the shock, because the stock circuits are so bad. Not sure if the new version fixes this, but it's known as a pretty turdy shock. Not an endorsement. Different riders will prefer a different feel. I think you are confusing it with the DPX2. My understanding is the new Float X is a return the vanilla design and at least the low speed compression and rebound adjustments are decoupled.AFAIK, tuners are generally not touching the Float X and not able to do much with it, because of it's wacky valving where compression adjustment affects rebound significantly with the opposite also being true. Yep, I was. I didn't realize they had expanded the line. Like an "air" Bomber CR then. Well that's refreshingly good.I think you are confusing it with the DPX2. That explanes why when I received a DPX2 the other day for service I verifield a succesfull bleed on my hand dyno only to find the adjusters worked the oposite to what they should, I thought I was going nuts ! Every day's a school day I guess !I think you are confusing it with the DPX2. Why do you say that? There's not a lot of feedback on the new FLOAT X and it's coil version yet.
But it's gotta be better than the new X2.
The crappy poppet-valve style damping in the X2.Why do you say that?
The 21 X2 has a poppet HSC and it's very stiff. No options to go softer. They went back to basics with the 2021 version. Has shims now. Not saying that means it's better though. Haven't had the chance to ride mine yet, but sorta already planning on it's replacement when it inevitably goes in for warranty repair.

If you can push the boat out and it fits you could try the EXT Storia, OK its not an air shock but by heck its one amazing shock ! Or wait until next year when EXT release an air sprung version !I am trying to decide if I want the 2022 Float x for the Pivot trail 429 or some other shock.
I am 6'1" 173 pounds. Ride most everything but no downhill racing or bike parks. I used to be a good XC racer in my region.
Float x sounds like the shock for you. I just installed a tuned float x from fluid focus and it is much better than the dpx2. X2 feels more planted and less lively.I'm building up a new V4 Bronson and debating. I just ordered the Float X, but now questioning the decision a little bit.
I'm 200 lbs and most of my riding is long climbs up followed by long aggressive descents. Not always fire roads, I like tech climbs as well. I found I was constantly blowing through the travel on my Super Deluxe that came with my V3 Bronson, hence the change.
Anyone ridden both on the same bike and have any thoughts?
Hey what bike carrier is that? ThanksFloat x sounds like the shock for you. I just installed a tuned float x from fluid focus and it is much better than the dpx2. X2 feels more planted and less lively.

So is the 2022 X2 different? The 21 X2 has a poppet HSC and it's very stiff. No options to go softer.
