Had a chat with someone yesterday who was recently in the Conti factory, and was told to be watching for a new 29er tire(s) from them. Since I love Conti, and the Vapor is such a low volume, weak beaded tire, I thought this was good stuff! They did not give a timeline, but, I figured lauching it here, might give some buzz, and might help powers that be, push a bit more. Beyond that, if everyone knows already, or no-one cares, let this thread die on it's face. :D

I want a 29" carbon copy of the 26" Twister Supersonic, just stronger beads. The ultimate tacky soil race tire. Doesn't clog up.

I've seen the 700c x 37 Twister pros and they are darn near the same dimensions as my 26" Twister pros, why couldn't you use those? You could even go wider with 42 for the stronger wire bead and more volume.

I'm hoping they make a few. A Twister would be HOT, I love that as a rear, summer tire. The something big, like yeah, a Gravity. It would be great, if they hit both ends of the spectrum, instead of some middle ground, compromise, like, um, the Vapor

I've never actually seen the 42 up clsoe. Ordered a few too many so-so trekking tires the past years. <40mm (true carcass) won't do me either, our national rules are now 40mm+ for mountainbiking (a good rule IMO, if the union fears CX bikes for some reason).

Who's got 42c twisters? Are the carcass and compound any good? True widh please?

I have some 42c twisters on a Sury Crosscheck. Have used them off and on in the AZ desert for 1 1/2 years. Aprox 1500 miles. Holding up well, not good when it gets loose, otherwise good traction. Width? a bit shy of 1.5 inches, what is that, about 38c.

My mole at Conti says two patterns are coming in both 2.1 and 2.4. Early summer and fall. Sshhh!

I vote for Gravity and Vertical in 2.4! A 2.4 Vertical would be a a wider Ignitor.

I have a set of the 700x42 Twister Pros (specs on my site) and they are nothing like the 26x1.9 Twister. MUCH narrower with a deeper tread.

I was just wondering earlier today when and if Conti would come out with a new 29er tire......weird.

First of all, please don't make it an Explorer or Gravity/Vertical.....all three of those are basically just slightly different versions of the Ignitor.

It would be nice if they made the 2.4, whatever it might be....maybe a Diesel?

I would love a Survival 2.3. :D

Will they be called 28" as well? That sure was a super-smart marketing move to get their tires flying out the door! Schwalbe did it too, and now thinks there's now market for 700c MTB tires, as theirs are barely sold, where the identical 26" version is quite popular for marathons.

If Conti are giving a "middle of the road", "do-all" tread a go, they may be disappointed again. With the current fat tires on the market, and excellent ~2.1's, I wonder if a very-Conti do-all tire will sell very well. A Conti rep explained to me that it is their concept though, to have non-specialist tires. So who knows. I hope their treads will be great additions to everyone's tire pile. One fully race-oriented and one "knobby" would be nice.
That each will come in 2.1 and 2.4 hint it won't be a Twister, although I'd like to try a 29x2.4 Twister for sure.
