Hi guys,
after the first technical rides in the european Alps with my new Orbea Loki i decided to stay with clipless shoes. But i will need some low shoes for hike-a-bike and Enduro-style trails.
I did some research and something like the Shimano XM7 would be fine but i prefer shoes without Gore Tex during the summer.
In reviews i found:
: Shimano ME7
: Mavic Crossride
but unfortunately both will not last for a long time 'cause the soles will wear out very quickly.

Has anyone recommendations for such a shoe? Any experiences?

Specialized 2FO cliplites have been great. My friends have been on 5.10 Kestrels and really like them.

I want to try the Scott AR BOA MTB shoes. Prob my next shoe, unless I find the 2FO's on sale.

I guess the shoes you suggested are not grippy enough for rocky trails upwards with wet roots. Look more like city sneakers

Any further suggestions?

Edit forgot to mention that Boa without a cover is a no-go in the Alps. If it breaks on the road the trail riding is terminated.

I have ridden 2 pair of the old versions of the ME7s into the ground. I moved on long ago to Specialized Comps (inexpensive, durable and relatively light). I have never looked back, and never will.

I don't know what you have in mind exactly for riding but in the Canadian Rockies, where there are plenty of rides with some pretty sketch off-bike scrambles involved, the Specialized Comps do just fine on the rocks. As for the boa system breaking on the road, I think you may be chasing ghosts. Your dropper malfunctioning (as well as numerous other things) is likely a much higher risk.

Not sure anyone is going to be able to help you beyond where you are already. You seem to have things scouted out pretty well. Maybe do a cross post in the enduro section and see what some the racing crew are using in similar circumstances.

Here on Vancouver Island I love my Specialized Cliplite Lace shoes. Enough grip on wet rocks and if a lace breaks it's an easy fix. I have had a Boa fall apart and seen buckles smashed on rocks so it's old-fashioned laces for me.

Specialized shoes were always too narrow for my feet. But i will look for a dealer to test the shoe with the laces.
As a mountain trailrunner i prefer laces (if it can break it will break. Like the ratchet bucket on my Shimano shoes).

Why you would discount Gore-Tex for summer use is beyond me. It's not Thinsulate or some thermal material. I wear XM7 now and they are a bad-ass shoe with the Vibram soles. Summer temps here are always in the 80's & 90's...so what, no problem. Great traction on virtually all surfaces but a perfect amount of stiffness for putting it down on the pedals.

I also bought the XM9's because I regularly bike-in on my local trails while hauling tools to do trail work. The XM9's are perfect as they're almost like work boots with cleats and keep the dirt out of the shoes and offer great foot protection and support. Shimano definitely did it right with these 2 shoes. You're missing out.

Really?? Sometimes I get blisters when socks and feet get wet by sweat. So i avoid Goretex shoes in summer. But i will visit my LBS for the XM7.

I've had great luck with Mavic in terms of comfort and fit, but they aren't the most hardy of builds.

I just ordered a pair of the Mavic Crossmax to replace some sneaker looking clip in shoes. Don't like how there are no lugs on the sole. I'm not too rough on shoes so hopefully the Mavic soles do not not fall apart.

Northwave got some trail/AM shoes. So does Pearl Izumi.

The ME7 look like some nice shoes. Too bad that their sizing does not work with my feet. They are either too way small...or too big.

I've been riding in a pair of 5 10 Kestrels since they came out (so the BOA model). They have very nice grip hiking on rocks and roots, but the rubber of the sole is weak. Within a year I was repairing the front of the sole with shoe glue. They needed to be re-fixed every 6 months. Also pebbles get lodged in the sole once it starts ripping and you get to dig them out with whatever you have (small hex L keys).

So although I wear them, I won't buy another pair, and can't recommend them.
