New BMC Fourstroke with 650B front end!

MacDuc, I personally like the 650B/26 better than any other setup I've tried. The 26 is a great compromise for the rear for longer travel trail bikes. My Nomad and '08 SJ FSR are about as good as it gets for me. The 650B still allows long travel forks with as tall a wheel as possible, while the 26 in the rear keeps acceleration crisp. I also think that too many people put too much emphasis on the alleged headangle tweak. I like the 1/2 degree or so reduced head angle induced by a 650B in front. Aggressive trail riding is a pleasure with this setup...stability without throwing out some sharp handling. My '08 SJ FSR will accept a 650B Neo in the rear, but I'm not going there.

On the Quasi, it's not my type of tire. It's a good XC application, but I need a more aggressive tread like the Neo. For a decently aggressive tread, the Neo is a fast rolling tire IMO.

I have been running the 2.35 Nevegal up front on both the old HT as well at the new BMC. I really like it, I am just hoping see if I can find something that works as well, but it is lighter than the Nevegal.

So far I am really pleased with the Wolverine as a rear tire. I did another twelve miles today on a new trail with everything from loam, the hardpack, the rock gardens, roots and water. The tire really performs well, might be interesting to try on the front. They are supposedly on the boat now and should be here in the next two weeks.:thumbsup:

I am running the Fox fork with about 15 mm of sag and the RP2 with about 10 mm and keeping it in propedal and the bike is handling everything I have ridden so far. I am gaining more confidense with each ride.

I did make a few adjustments when I went to the 650B. I moved the seat about 12-13 mm forward, from my old position. I moved the bars down 13mm (see the spacer difference in the pictures). These changes seemed to offset any changes the 650B may have made to the geometry, although, I don't really think it did much to the geometry.

Please post up when you get the new compound Neo's as well as the size and the weight? I will let you know how the Wolverine works on the front! Look forward to hearing back on the Neo's, have a great week.

Here are some pics of the Wolverine on the rear, it's a 2.2 so this should give you an idea of the footprint. The rear rim is a Stan's ZTR Flow. Hopefully, we will see the 650B versions soon. I am really jazzed with the tire.

Wolverine vs Igniter

I was really happy with the Igniter, I had been runing it for about 8 months on my old HT, before movinbg it to the new BMC. The only drawback was the weight, when I built to new bike I was aiming for a 25 pound build. I tried the Wolverine at the suggestion of my LBS. The Wolverine rolls better than the Igniter, it is definately lighter by half a pound than the Igniter, I am just waiting to see how the sidwalls fair in the rocks here in Austin. I should know more over the next few months. These are the only two tires I have tried on the BMC I just built it a month ago.

As for the suspension, I have the sag set at 13 mm in the rear on the RP3. I have been running it in Propedal 90% of the time, since I have been transitioning from an HT. I definately notice more bob when I don't run in Propedal. When I run it in Propedal, I am proabably gettin some bob but it's really minimal. I am still getting used to the new 2 x 9 setup. I am spinning more while climbing in the saddle than with the HT and the bike climbs almost as well as the HT. I am very happy with the BMC and would not have a problem recommending it to anyone that is a serious MTB'er. The 650B up front has also really made a big difference, the bike rolls obstacles like mad! If you test any new tires, post up you findings, I am interested to see what other BMC'ers are having success with!

Quasi Moto overview- i just mounted a new Pacenti Quasi Moto front tire this week. I was waiting on a Wolverine 650B, that still has not showed. The Quasi Moto 2.0 is really light at 550 grams with short widely spaced knobs. I was suspect as to how this tire would work as a front tire? I did my first 12 mile ride on Wednesday this week. The little Quasi was a nice surprise. I rode a local trail that has some loamy black dirt as well as lose rock, roots, ledges and some hardpack. The tire handled everything really well, with the exception of fast corners that still had some wet spots. I had some nice two wheel drifts! I am going to play with the air pressure, lowering it a couple of pounds and see how it reacts. Overall, this is a realy good front tire for my application, it rolls well and handles everything I rode without issue. The Quasi is over a 1/2 pound lighter than the Nevegal I was running. I will keep posting as I get more feedback, but if you are looking for a front tire, you might want to consider this tire.
