Just received a new paydirt gold Bronson and the paint on top-tube seems thin and blotchy. It's not like the other parts of the bike which look more solid. Thoughts?

Is it something that's rubbed off from the box or packaging? Would be surprised if that passed QC as a paint defect.

My general response to minor paint defects is “live with it.” In this case, that’s pretty janky and I wouldn’t be pleased.

You spent a lot of money - if it bugs you they should make it right.
Problem Is they might choose to repaint it. You may have an alternate ride so maybe no biggie for you.

Santa Cruz doesn't paint these bikes themselves. They send them out to get painted. I think they would want to see it and know that there is an issue with the company painting their bikes.

No way I would accept that. I would contact the shop or SC. I bet they send you a new frame.

Santa Cruz doesn't paint these bikes themselves. They send them out to get painted. I think they would want to see it and know that there is an issue with the company painting their bikes.

I think they get painted in the states. I'm pretty sure all frames come from china w/o so they can sell the same frame with a new paint scheme each year.

Im generally ok with some paint issues but i think you will have a lot of trouble selling that down the road. Warranty asap.

Send it back. SC warranty is as good as it gets. Short term pain while you wait but that would bug me forever.

That's unacceptable. Definitely return it. Some people think they have blotches, but it's really just a thin coating and you're seeing the carbon layup. That's not the case here though. Good looking bike and I'm sure aesthetics had something to do with your purchase, so I'd definitely return it.

Thanks for the replies. Everyone in my family says it doesn't look right. I bought the bike for my 12 year old son from backcountry.com because our local shop could not get me one. I just filed a warranty claim with Santa Cruz and will hopefully hear back soon. They should make it right. The photos don't show it but the thin paint issue is on both sides of top tube. I'll report back when I hear from Santa Cruz.

I bought a bike once with a paint problem. It was a hideous color. Trip to the powder coat shop fixed it right up.
