New bike pics: Ventana X-5

Got my new bike last Friday, Ventana X-5. This is the first Ventana sale at TommyO. He recently became the first Ventana dealer in Arizona and did a great job with the build and component switches.

I originally ordered a charcoal frame with a Romic coil, but 6+ weeks without a MTBike was too much for me. Production problems kicked the ETA back further so I went with Tom's frame at the shop. My saving grace has been the road miles I've been doing, but I wanted to spare y'all from posting those pics here.

This X-5 has quad bearings on the rear (factory upgrade) and tracking is very stiff and smooth, with only minor bob. The xl size comes with the super-strong X design, all other sizes are a partial X. This frame's headset angle is 70 and feels great on uphill sections. Way to early to give a review, I'll shutup and give you the specs:

Ventana X-5 (size xl)
Quad bearing upgrade
Fox Float R
Fox Float Talas RL
XT Hollowpoint cranks
XT front and rear
Shimano 959
Thompson seatpost
Titec Ithys seat
Chris King headset
Monkey Lite handlebar
Mavic CrossMax XL
Continental Diesel 2.5 front and rear

Thanks to Srexy for joining me on the X-5's inaugural ride on T-100 and documenting it in photos. You always manage to make me live up to the "Red Lantern" title, no matter what bike I ride.

Happy Trails.

Clarification...

6 week delivery was not due to Ventana. I had a frame warranty to resolve and was considering other frames and shops.

There was a issue at production that delayed my frame's delivery but it is due to the rigid QA standards at Ventana.
Nice bike

Nice bike. I have never seen a Ventana X-5 before, just the Pantera (doesn't Tommy own a Pantera?).

Thx...Doug
Not sure on the Pantera

Thanks Doug!

I am not sure if Tom has a Pantera, but it wouldn't surprise me. I know he has owned a Rocky Mtn Element 70 and a Tomac Eli. I test drove his Eli in Flagstaff (complete XTR) and really liked the ride/feel of it. The Eli frame is certainly wicked-looking and perhaps a bit too complicated, and no where near the strength of a X-5. X-5 is brand new in 2004.

Nice Bloody Bike!

Very sexy indeed. Pick up test yields 30-31lbs - not bad for such a burly rig.

Included in the deflowering ride was a nice thread the needle run down trail 8 which bent the derailleur hanger and one OTB episode which took a nick out of the "Electric Sex" decal on his seatpost. I think it's fully broken in Steve :)

Looking forward to more rides w/the blue bombshell !
Sweet

That is one sweet ride. Bumped into Rex this weekend and we discussed your bike, although you and I have not met. The X-5 was on my very short list of new bikes. Went with a 5-Spot, but looking at the pics is making me jealous.
5-Spot or X-5 was a tough choice.

Thanks! I hope to catch you and Doug out on the trail soon, and I look forward to checking out your Spot.

My final choice decision came down these two bikes. It was tough. Either one would have been a right choice. I leaned toward X-5 because of the "x" design and incredible strength of the triangles making up this frame (it really had nothing to do with the pattended "SEX" welds, honestly. Haha). When TommyO said he will start selling Ventanas soon I was sold. Charles at HammerHead was another valuable resource and I want to use him for my next bike.

See you soon...

Steve

Agree

With these bikes you can't go wrong and the ultimate buying decision often comes down to little things. For me, one of the things that I do not now like about my 5-Spot is that it is no longer "contrarian" enough. It seems that everyone and his monkey now have Turners, thus making me a trendy technoweeny with a monkey.:D I have only seen a Ventana once out on the trails. I like that.
