Hey everybody,

I am new to this forum but desperately want to start riding again. My brother just took his Trek Singletrack but with him to Buffalo so I am currently without a bike. I just graduated college so I am on a budget of around $250-300. I can get a Trek Y-26 in really good shape for $250? I heard mixed reviews about its durability, so is there another option in that price range or just go for that? I am looking to do moderate mountain biking, nothing to crazy but some jumps here and there.I dont mind getting a used bike but can find a good site expect Ebay for used mountain bikes. Let me know if you can help, any reply is awesome.

I'm 6'1 180 if that helps

i've heard a lot of bad things about these. the local bike shop that i visited to who carries trek said that they stopped selling them due to all the problems that are associated with that model. unfortunately like most will say, you cant get a good dual suspension bike unless your paying $2k+. there are lots of nice hardtails out there though which can be just as fun and they save you a few pounds. hope this helps...

if your looking for a used bike you should check to see if any of your local bike shops hosts some sort of classifieds for bikes...i know a lot of my local bike shops have free classifieds for people to sell their used gear on their websites..also people sometimes put adds in the newspaper...if yoru going for a used bike make sure you inspect it thoroughly....every detail can indicate how much care the owner put into their bike...good luck...

I haven't heard many good things about the Y-23 or many cheaper full suspension. Your best bet would be a hardtail, the ride is more rough but you get a much more durable bike for the price. You can find new hardtails that would be great for starting off with at around 300. A friend of mine has an 05 Specialized Hardrock sport he got for 350. if you do decide to go for a used bike make sure you have your local bike shop give it a look over and have a talk with the pervious owner. hope this helps at all -dave
