I finally picked up a decent bike and got a chance to get out riding with the camera. These trails aren't exactly my backyard, but the trailhead is less than 2 miles from my house. I've just been spending the past couple weeks exploring all of the different options and trails. Anyone here from western PA might recognize it as Roaring Run in Apollo. Sorry no action shots and quality is weak, my buddy backed out at the last minute and I don't like to take the SLR out when it's just me.

New bike stoke. GF Sugar 4+. It's an 03 but I got it brand new as a leftover for a pretty sweet price. It's my first nice bike, anything to watch out for on these?

Most of the trails start like this with some climbing

Which leads to this

And this

And down this, which is a lot steeper than it looks in the picture

And then over some stuff like this

And this

Then it opens up into this

And this

Then tightens back up

And more of this

And this

And finally a place to cool down at the end

If any guys of you are going to be riding here and need someone to go, let me know. I'm getting to know my way around pretty well and I can literally be there in 5 minutes, I try to ride it at least a couple times a week after work.

Wow, welcome to the forums and to the sport!

I'm from the New Ken/Arnold area, so I'm not too far from you. The pictures you posted are also mighty familiar since a lot of that trail is used in the annual Tour de Strongland mountain bike race every September. I distinctly remember lots of the sections that you posted :)

You're lucky to have those trails so close! There is absolutely NO singletrack in this area within riding distance. Enjoy the bike! Perhaps we can go for a ride sometime!

What are home prices in your town? I want to move there! looks like some awesome riding there.
Cheap, everyone is moving out. I'm actually only going to be here for 2 more years until I get out of school, then it's out west.

I know, it's making it a lot easier for me getting into the sport having these trails so close. I can't believe that when I was younger I would go down there and ride the rail trail without knowing how much stuff there was to explore over the hills.

Apollo, PA. I'm heading down there now, I'll try to get pics of some of the nastier stuff in better light
You might wanna enter the Tour de Strongland race this or next year or something. They have a bunch of different classes so you can race with people at your own level and it's a great way to improve (or at least... let you know what you need to improve on).

I'd like to, I have to see what my schedule for school is like around then though. I used to ski race and race mx, I hate not competing in anything anymore. I should have all of the trails pretty well dialed by the time that rolls around too.

Well I just got back from another ride of all trails I haven't hit yet. I finally found the technical stuff that people were talking about when they say Apollo. Some of the trails could use some TLC after the last round of storms that came through, I took quite a beating from hanging branches and thorns as well as the ruts. Pics to come soon.
