NEW 2005 Jamis Dakar Pro

Managed to find an LBS here that stocks a 2005 15" Jamis Dakar XC Pro frameset. Been looking for a very very long time. So here it is.

Good bike choice - I found my Pro frame last winter about the time the '06 came out. I can't understand why Jamis didn't continue the '05 paint.

I've got about 700 miles on mine so far and love the ride, but I would recommend that you watch your carbon seat stay. Mine would bottom out on the misplaced cable stop, so I was putting a nice notch in the stay. Jamis replaced the frame, including the stay, so I got to build my bike twice. Unfortunatly, the cable stop on the new frame was in the same location, so instead of accepting a '06 frame, I did some judicious grinding with a Dremel and never looked back.

Also, to eliminate cable rub and erosion of the paint, I added a few fuzzy, self adhering velcro patches around the head and seat tubes.

yes, rjend, i love the '05 paint so much better than the '06. i hope it's better in '07. my xlt frame just bottoms on the front derailleur cable housing, just above the cable stop. i took the cable off and deflated the shock and found out it bottoms about 3 mm away from the frame. whew. and as for your velcro trick, i also found a way to keep wear at a minimum. black electrical tape blends right in wiht my frame and it's stayed on for 6 months so far (probably since i cleaned it beforehand). i'm wondering if the blue stuff would work on your bikes?

The bike looks great! Have you weighed it yet? Just curious, as I've been putting my Dakar on a diet and you look like you have a relatively lightweight build.

Have I made the right decision? I hope so

A friend of mine owns a LBS and is a Jamis dealer.
I hear alot of really good things about Jamis bikes. I curently own a 2005 Rocky Mountain Switch, with some mods like CK headset and front hub, triple 8 fork. I love the bike, period, but,
I ride with my wife, and need a "do it all" bike. I am not really into the big hit stuff as its not really my thing, but like to tackle it once in a while.
Can the Dakar XLT 2.0 handle the shore if I decide to ride it once in a while? can it handle whistler?
I am up to 7 bikes( wife has 4, me 3) and need to cut back... the maintenance on them is becoming a full time job alone..
Anyway I am trading, no money involved my switch for the dakar... my only concerns, the fork isnt 20mm, and only130mm travel, 150 would be nicer, can the frame handle 150mm fork?
I will be getting the bike tomorrow. I got it in olive/black ano, as the GTO orange/black ano stands out too much for me.

It's about 27 pounds and some change. Not lightweight, its supposed to be a cross country race bike. Haha. Pencilled in a race for the new year.

Anyway, the colours did it for me. 06 is horrible. Same goes for the Reba as well.

Anticipating the paint chips as mentioned by others in this forum.

I have some problems with cabling. Will put up pics soon. Seems my LBS cocked the cabling up.

I'm on a Jamis Sport @ 31 pounds, so you're lightweight in my book! :thumbsup: BTW, that color rocks so hard.

New 06 colours.

I thnk the website doesn't do the colours justice... Iwil lsee tomorrow as I ordsered the Dakar XLT 2.0 in olive green and black.
