Sounds like there may be several of us lowlanders converging on the McCall area this weekend - I'll be there, flip and RRB will be there, lv2ride will be there, and I think formica said she'll be there too. Of course, Wayndar is already there, as is dumbluck. Shall we start making some riding plans? I'm hoping to ride one or both days up there. What's the best day and time for everyone? I'm leaning towards a Sunday AM ride, since I am a godless heathen. Chime in if you want to hook up for a ride and indicate your preferred day.

Godless heathens unite. How about a Sunday AM worship service Loon Lake ride? It sounds like even the hibernating agnostic mcidmtb will join in- if we lure him with a beer cooled in the Secesh river.
Saturday- maybe something closer to town?

Yeah... I have wondered if I knew or would recognize the McCall folks. How long have you lived in McCall Wayndar?

Anyways, we have a wedding to go to Sat afternoon. Other than that, schedules (should) be free. Loon lake was fun. I did it for the first time last weekend. I had a smile on my face the whole time!

So there was some overlap. I tried to move to McCall the day the roads were flooded out at New Years 97. I got to Banks and the road was blocked, but the state trooper said I could still go through Weiser. When I got to Weiser, I was stopped on the bridge and they said the road was closed. Then I saw a propane tank floating down the river and I decided to go back to Salt Lake and try again a week later.

I'm out, sorry gang it would have been fun. So think of me on the singletrack!

The good news is I did my first trail ride after 5 weeks off the bike, car accident. I think it feels ok ( physically) I know the rest of me feels good... you know, that happy place feeling.

Sunday AM works for me too, and Loon is as good as anywhere, I suppose. I take it 20 mile has not been cleared yet? That would be my first choice, but if it still has lots of deadfall (and Loon/Ruby Meadows has been fully cleared), I could do a Loon trip. Maybe a loop around the Lake, combined with an out and back on Ruby Meadows or Victor Creek? What time? Say, meet in town around 9 AM?

I remember that. The building at Banks (well, the old banks) was washed right into the river and the road was just torn out by the mudslide. The locals were all panicked because they thought we were all trapped in and supplies couldnt get in. Gas prices immediately skyrocketed and milk and bread flew off the shelves in the grocery stores til those spaces were bare. People were acting nuts like it was the apocalypse or something. I think we were trapped in for like 3 days. Thanks for the fun memory reminder. I had forgotten about that. 1997 was also one of the worst forrest fire summers we had too. You couldnt see the mountians all summer.

20 Mile hasn't been cleared yet south of the Lakes trail and Willow Flat has been cleared 3times but still getting a lot of blowdown.
Loon Lake from Chinook CG with an in & out on Victor and Willow Flat sounds great to me.

BTW - anyone know of any houses available for rent; N, NE, SE, BB? PM with info.

Heres the pics

We met up this morning with Earthpig, Wayndar, and mcitb (sp?). There were a couple of out of towners along also, Deb and Mark. Loon lake was great fun. We spent a good four hours messing around on the Loon Lake trail and doing an out and back on Ruby Meadows. The huckleberries were big and yummy, and the flowers were gorgeous. It was really fun to meet the McCall folks. Hopefully we can do it again soon.

so, are the unavoidable wet spots on Ruby Meadows drying out now? ( looked at the newspsper link, it's several weeks old now) I'm headed up there next weekend now, and hoping to do Ruby Loon with a shuttle.

Sure is easy to kill a few hours at Loon, isn't it??!!
