hey guys i am in discussions with a landowner to purchase a 15 acre site for my next freeride park. i know i have been looking to score a land deal in southwest utah, but it has been hard to find any worthy land. so now i have a plot near denver (less than a hour from downtown and boulder and keystone)) that i want to buy and run similarly to the cpx challenge park in illinois, but with camping too. i would like to hear your thoughts. i am making a decision any day now so tell me what you think. the stunts will be like the one in the pic. the camping will cost five bucks a night, reservations will be required and everyone will have to pay the camping fee and sign a waiver (regardless if you actually camp).

Could you elaborate on the location of this land? I would love to hear more!

can i camp for free when i come help build
yes hucker of course if you drive out and build, but the five bucks is gonna the standard for a days entry into the park. pay for one night of camping and ride. discounts for weekly, monthly and seasonal passes. i plan to buy the land and offer free camping for the first six months to builders until the park is finished (to have a planned march opening).

will you be able to put in a shuttle road?
there is already a shuttle road. i am going up sunday to determine slope of the road and whether its a four wheel drive or all car road. it looked like it was good but i did not waqlk the whole way up. the property is like 1500 feet long by 450 feet wide (with about 400 foot elevation gain).

*day-dreaming of stuff to build*
me too. basically if the shuttle road is driveable to the top its a go on this site. i was there like ten seconds and saw a natural 20 foot drop to perfect tranny at the bottom so you know that the land is just riddled with natty features.

sweeet

Count me in on droppin some dough to ride. I'm probly close enough not to need to camp, and if it weren't for all the house projects and landscaping I have piling up, I'd promise some manual labor towards it as well - I'll see how long my kitchen remodel takes... I haven't built much in the way of stunts, but I've built a few ramps.

Sounds like you've got a good plan together. Have you thought about insurance? I'm curious if liability insurance is available for something like this and whether or not it's affordable.

Sucks to even have to worry about it but hopefully you've got it taken care of. I'm just curious to know how available it is in CO for something like this.

Good luck!

either you inherited mad $$$ or you are looking at making back the investment at some point. Since most of your traffic might come from colorado natives ( at least until you have some recognition from out of state), you might want to charge for usage as well as camping....just a thought.

Oh, a pop-machine and wet t-shirt contest would be handy too :)

as long as you offer us something we can't get for free will be there riding. alot of pay skateparks have come and gone in colorado because there are too many good free ones. new trails and stunts are going up (and being torn down) every day.

400 feet of elevation gain/loss doesn't sound like a whole lot to me, but camping for five bucks sounds like a great deal. add in some showers and a communal kitchen and every visiting MTBer will be sure to stop. good luck

well i have yet to see a "stunt" like you speak of on a legal front range trail. but i know of plenty of illegal ones on illegal trails. there are no free mtb parks (yet) anywhere in the usa so the skatepark analogy is a moot point. i am obviously offering something you cant get for free: camping for dirt cheap in a mtb park with drops, stunts, jumps, skinnies, ramps, ladders, a dj park, a freeride training zone, gnarl trails that will take skill to clear every feature, etc. there will be no holding back on size of jumps/stunts. it will range from beginner to you gotta be kidding me size. 400 or so feet down (over 1500 feet length) is short but remember that a shuttleable spot like this will allow for enough runs in a day to break anyone down. a rider will be able to hit upwards of 25 stunts in one run. and it will be climbable on a bike ala the north shore (fire road with multiple stunt runs going back down off it).

thanks for the input guys. i will analyze the fire road on sunday and decide whether to buy or not basically on the spot so if it happens building will start soon.

Down in the Springs we just got permission to build a freeride park in the new Red Rocks canyon park. I don't really know what they will let people build, but I would guess that they will go by the IMBA freeride guide, which actually isn't bad at all. So there's one. But it won't be as nice as what you are going to build. I can always go visit my parents in Denver and swing on by :D

Dude!!!

that's an awesome idea. Build really cool stuff, not just boring, typical stuff; really be creative. I wish I could go there & help you. Too bad I live in boring old NC

I'll help all I can, I live in C. Springs now, but am moving up to Fort Collins in 5 days. If you decide to buy the place let me know when you need the help and I'll be more than happy to volunteer my time if I have any free. Just shoot me an email at [email protected]

update

hey guys here is an update. i went to the land and walked it all over. its totally sick terrain that would be awesome for slow techy freeride trails with stunt after stunt. its not really set up for true dh but for freeride, extreme trail and xc its just about right.

there is one problem. the shuttle road only goes about halfway up. i would need volunteers to help build a road, not just the trails. i would need serious volunteers who wanted to be part of a trail crew, but get free access (possibly for life). this crew would be like 4-5 guys and you would have to live in the area to qualify. any thoughts on this? the road would take two months to build, but the soil is workable and the trees are not dense where the road would go.
