[Twisted Gorilla]

I have a 2017 Trek X caliber 5. It has mechanical disc brakes. I am 6'5" 250, they do not stop me too well. I would like to upgrade to a hydraulic setup with slightly larger rotors. I would like to find a nice kit that offers everything I need, but I can piece it together if that is the best route. Thanks in advance for you input.

I'd start with Shimano SLX. They are cheap, powerful and reliable. I'm 6'4" with 270 lb and use them in the flat Texas, but they never failed me when I needed.

I'd start with the complete kit, that comes with hoses pre-assembled.

Then get 180 rotors from and rear if you like and front and rear 180mm adapters.

Skip the 180 up front and go 203 if the fork is compatible. Once you go 203 180 feels short on power. At 180lbs I switched one bike to 203 in the front and the 2nd bike was changed over shortly after. With your mass you'd be better served with a 203 up front if possible.

And I agree with the Shimano slx. Great brake.

Amazon, for instance. I think 180 rotors should be fine, but if you're already upgrading, 203 should do fine too. I use 180 and they work fine.

I just looked up my fork and it says only up to a 180 rotor. So 203 will have to wait till I upgrade the fork. lol
