need stans ztr wheel advice

Hi, I just ordered two niner rip 9's. All the parts selection is done. The only thing I need to do is decide on the rims so my builder can get them done.

The hubs will be stans ZT1 either way.

bike 1. girlfriends, 120 pound female. cross country/trail rider. She does not do drops or hardcore moves. She likes a meaty tire in the 2.2 to 2.4 range though. (maxxis ardent continental mountain king etc)

bike 2: My bike: 190 pounds. crosscountry/trail rider. Also prefer fatter tires. tire of choice. fire xc pro 29, weirwolf lt 2.3

Soooo, I need to decide on the rim before I finalize the build. Any help will be appreciated. Tim

Thats easy, Her on Crests & you on Flows.

She will like the weight of the crests & they will hold up to lots under her weight & they are 2mm wider inside the rim than the Arch & only 1.6mm narrower than the Flow.

I'm 177 Lb but was up around 190 & have used Arch & Flows & just find the flows give better control with lower tyre pressures.

The 2.4 Ardent is a great front tyre for the Rip9 but the 2.25 Ardent is crap IMHO
arch for her, flow for you.

+2 on the crest for her and flow for you. the wider rimes will support the bigger tires you guys prefer better.

arch would have less support and more meat that she needs.
Great

I am going with the crests for her based on these and other recommendations. Upon reviewing the tires I was unimpressed with the ardents. The builder said that he can do almost any tire and i might swap those out.
As for me I am still deciding between the arch and flows. both look good. Decisions, ! decisions
The Flow's lay down a really good foot print and they're stiff...mine corner like their on a rail..
Hands down on flows for you, nice for fatter tires especially if run tubeless. Weight weenies will cringe, but a real man will appreciate the fatter footprint and not care.
Ok, flows for me, arches for her.
I weigh the same as you and went for the flows on my mcr 9

Crests for her! Wider internal width, lighter, and plenty strong for her weight. Arches are overkill in this application...

Check out Bontrager FR3s for a meaty tire:thumbsup:
I have Salsa Gordos, but I weigh 260. They really widen up the footprint.

Flows for you:thumbsup:

Crests for her

IMO Arches are what people choose when they cant work out what they really need
I weigh 180ish and rode Crests HARD for a season so I can guarantee they'll work for a pixie;)
flows and crestss win

We have a winner!! crests for her, flows for me....Now for tire choice...lol

Now not so easy,

Ikon 2.2 for her & for you Ummmmmmm was it the 2.4 ardent you didn't like ? or the 2.25

Ikon on the rear for you & front still think you should try the 2.4 Ardent on the Rip9.

I also like Ignitor's
What about the Crank Brothers Cobalt 29er? is that a tough wheel? I have Stans ZTR Race and im thnkn bout switchin to the Cobalt.??? Advice?
Sorry to threadjack but can the Crests run the olympic valve tubeless kit? Is this the best way to run tubeless?

I talked to the builder and he has ird fire xc pro 29ers 2.1's, wtb weirwolf lt 2.5's (which are not really 2.5 he said), continental mountain kings, and maxxis aspens available in 29. I'll research those and see what people are saying.
I'm a big fan of the Schwable line ie. Racing Ralphs 2.4.
