I bought a 2005 Coiler Primo frame off of Wheelworld a few weeks ago. To make an extremely long and frustrating story short, I took it to a shop to have the bottom bracket installed over the weekend. The shop owner was chasing/facing the shell when the tool BROKE off inside the frame. This is a very reputable bike shop and also a Kona dealer, the owner is an extremely nice guy. Anyhow, he finally got the broken piece out but the bb shell is toast.

I need some advice on what to do next! He is going to contact his Kona rep and see if they can find me a 05 Coiler Primo triangle. I'm not sure how long this will take though. My next option, he has offered me a Deelux model which I assume is the same frame just a different color. He would just swap my DHX5.0 shock over and call it done. What would you guys do?

I feel bad for the guy, not only is he out of an expensive tool but he has to replace a frame that I didn't even buy from him. I totally believe in supporting your LBS but I also have to support my wallet.

If seem like your shop is living up to it's good name.
They are giving you two good options.
Since the primo and dlx frames are the same - I would have take the second option.
But if you are totally hooked on the primo's color - wait.

I am also in favour of supporting your LBS - keep being a customer and bring your friends.

The Delux and Primo are indeed the same frame.

If you were not to attached to the Yellow frame then let him swap you the delux frame with your shock on it and he can work with his Kona Rep. or Kona themselves to see what they can do about the damaged frame. That will probably get you out on the trail faster as well.

Either option is a good deal. The only difference between the 05 and the new 06 would be color and the rocker arms. The new arms have the same exact dimensions but are a hollowed out "girder" type look instead of the "stamped" look of the 05.

You may have said they'd only be ordering the front triangle? Then color is the only difference.
