Short story is I'm building up a new to me Why S7 V2 and plan on riding east coast rocky/rooty/short up and down single track. punchy climbs, technical features, NO downhill/hucks/bike park/etc.

Keeping it geared with AXS and running a 130 or 140 Pike Ultimate. Trying to keep it pretty light but not trying to go Enve M640 necessarily. Any alloy choices out there I can get some time on to see if I want to stick with 27.5 plus or go up to a 29er on this bike.

I run 29+ wheels in rocky, technical terrain with lots of punchy ups and downs.
Onyx hubs, CXray spokes and Stans Baron wheels. Really like this combo.

Heaps of options available. Do you know what size tires you'll run in each diameter?
Yes I guess more details would be nice. I'd like to try 27.5+ first and have been back and forth between what they spec on it, 2.8," or going full 3.0." I've read all kinds of opinions on how wide the internal rim width should be for 2.8-3.0 but feel like 40 give or take a few mm is probably where I should be.

I run a Trek Farley 27.5x4.5" tire on Enve M685's and absolutely love it! I figure the 27.5x3.0 is like a good middle ground between my 29er trail bike on 2.35" tires and the Fatty.

If I were to go 29er it would be jamming 29x2.6" on there as my whole purpose is to keep this close to it's intended purpose of being very supple and low tire volume is where it's at in addition to the frame design and Ti construction.

I'd like to find a set of 27.5 with 40mm internal width rims with decent engagement that won't break the bank like a set of the ENVE M640's so that if I decide to go 29er I'm not trying to sell a $2500 27.5+ wheelset at a large discount I would assume. I'd love to get something on there with a DT ratchet hub or pawl design with decent engagement so I can get a good feel for the tire and wheel size on this bike.

Grand plan will be to go with a Carbon Moto style rim laced up to some Onyx hubs but not dropping that cash on a wheel size and format I've never ridden on a frame I've never ridden.

Actually I'm digging the Atomik Carbon Chubby 43mm wide carbon rim. Can get the Onyx Vesper hubs for right around $1900. That will be the "forever" set if I can find a proof of concept set that I can use and flip, even used wheels that I can flip for pretty much what I have into them or close would be ideal. what should I be searching for? I can't find many rims that are 40-43mm. They all seem to be 35mm or narrower and then 60-85mm on the 197 hubs that won't fit the bike.
