Hi all, i have an 04 I-drive 2.0 with just basic componentry on it and i was hoping someone here could help me with how to make it a better bike as i cant afford to upgrade at the moment. I mainly do xc style of riding and hardly ever do jumps or dropoffs, i do like to climb alot. Basicly i need some help in which direction to set up my bike.

My buddy is in the same boat and all he did was buy a rock shox rear shock with lock out and he loves his bike, he is a climber like you....
Save a buck, enjoy it as it is

If you're a climber, then the best upgrade you could get is a pair of lightweight wheels and tires. But it ain't cheap. Eventually, you will need new tires- resist the temptation to get fat, heavy tires. Get some folding bead 2.1s and you'll notice its easier to get them rolling.
Cheers, i have been thinking about a set of Panaracer Fire xc pro, what do you think, havent thought about wheels yet

Cheers for the reply

Depends on your conditions

Tire choice depends a lot on your local conditions. And what works well in the summer may not work well in the winter. See what the local riders are using and talk to your local bike shop. They might have some idea what works and what doesn't.

Another thing I thought of is if you have any trouble keeping the front end down on the climbs, then flipping over the stem (no cost) of getting a flat bar (money) should help.

My buddy has your bike, it's a good ride and it climbs well without any upgrades. I was impressed by it when I rode it.
Cheers for your input, i really appreciate it,

My fork is a marzocchi bomber MX comp with pro eta so when ever i climb i shorten the fork down to 80 mm and i find this helps, but i might try the flipping the stem idea aswell.
