Hi, I'm building up a new rig, and I am having problems with what dics brakes I should purhase. I am an XC rider and I am making the move from v-brake to disc brakes. I have read reviews on disc brakes, and most of them get mix reviews. I have heard that Shimano, Avid, and Magura make good disc brakes. Please recommend me some good disc brakes.
I understand that certain people like different disc brakes for differnet reasons. Money is not a problem.

Shimano, Avid and Magura all do make good disc brakes. As dogonfr says, so do Hayes. Hope and Formula do also.

For every brake you will find its supporters and its detractors. I'm very happy with my Maguras (which come with galfer rotors as standard... :p).

For XC, I'd be looking at Magura Martas personally (he said, with Louises on his XC bike...)

What is your budget?

Avid BB7s will come out on the cheaper side, and you will not even need to replace your levers. They are on par with some hydraulic systems. I was very plesantly surprised when i got mine set up and broken in. Great XC stopping power with the 160 rotors, and take only seconds to make adjustments.
