I've heard of Ritcy 4Axis Stem bolts stripping esay so I've always been super careful and used proper torque. Well, sure enough it stripped. Just in time for a race. WTF do I do now? It's the top cap bolt.
If you have carbon spacers, AND there is a little room between the top cap and the top of the steerer tube, you could cut the carbon spacers, allowing the stem to slide down the tube. Then you should be able to get some vice grips around the bolt.
You could also try tapping a slightly larger diameter alan wrench into the bolt. If the metal on the bolt is soft enough, you just might get enough friction to be able to back it out.
Thanks. My LBS REALLY bailed me out. They drilled it out and put a replacement bolt in. Also replaced other stem bolts AND re-bleed my Magura brakes. They stayed 30 minutes past close the day before the 4th. How amazing is that.
