I ride a 2008 cannondale prophet and was wondering the best shoes to get. I ride mosting cross country and some downhill. I have never had clipless shoes. I have always rode with flat pedals. I am considering switching to a shoe that does both, such as the shimano sh-mp66. Mostly because I own both flat and clipless pedals. I like to do the freeride opstacles at my local trails and fear falling being cliped in. any advice would be great. Thanks.

I bought some shimano's like that the one with the brown/black suede. They look like puma street shoes, but have the clipless mounts embedded. I had the same line of thinking as you, but ultimately the heel slippage in the lace-ups caused me to buy the silver shimano 3 velcro straps which i've found is much better; almost completely removing heel slippage-too tight and my foot falls asleep hate that!!!

So now i just bought a set of forte flat pedals-for the days i'm gonna focus on stunts. But for the most part, I'm out there carving, getting some cardio, and riding familiar stunts which clipless seems to provide much more power and more consistent foot positioning than the flats...

So, I'd keep'em separated and invest in a a good clipless 3 strap shoe, with clipless pedal and flat shoe/flat pedal scenario for stunt days.

p.s.- i also tried attaching the POS plastic flat pedal adapter to my shimano clipless pedals. Good in theory-but when stunting that lil rectangle doesn't provide enough platform and is way to slick for stunting--the metal clip in your shoe will slide all over it...and to boot they can get blown off by a rock easily...
