A little about me first, I usually bike 1-2 times a month at a technical park and then mostly do road biking every day. I currently own a 2008 Stumpjumper Elite with upgraded Monkey Lite handlebars and Thompson Elite X4 stem and seatpost. Rear rim has been changed to a Dt Swiss EX 5.1D. Rear shock was upgraded to a 2009 RP23 Fox. I have an opportunity to buy a 2011 S-Works Stumpjumper frame with 2011 Future shock but all other components are 2009 XTR parts and the brakes are Avid Juicy Ultimate Mags. Rims are Roval Controle SL. Pretty much all components off a 2009 S-Works but all new as of 6 months ago and the bike was barely used.

The question I have for you is what can I sell my bike for and what is a good price for the new used S-works and would I need that for my type of riding. Thanks for all comments...

I guess you could start by pricing all the components for the s-works bike as of new, then applying a discount to each bearing in mind age and "up to dateness" factor. I guess its a bit like thinking that you buy the bike, and break it into parts to sell on ebay. How much would each part be worth?

A new 2011 s-works frame (in slightly used condition) is probably worth quite a bit vs list and worth less discount (say 65-70% of list price?). I would guess the other components would be worth much much less than list so say 50 to 55%. Who knows in these things, but above is at least a decent starting reference point and the way I would try to approach things.

A good price = whatever deal your Spec. dealer is able to cut you which, for an S-works, might not be that much. Were I in this situation, unless whoever has the 2011 S-works SJ is cutting you a huge deal (those things retail for $8000 ish for the complete bike, almost $3000 for the frame), I'd try and find a 2010 S-works frame, or get a brand new SJ Pro or Expert.
