Need a good FS MTB for under $1000 help please

What kind of riding are you going to do on it? Since this is the DH-FR forum I'm gonna guess you want it to be able to take some abuse. Why not get a hardtail like Haro Escape 8.3 that'll give you a burly frame and nice components like Marz Dirtjumper fork and Hayes HFX hydraulic disc?

There aren't many good $1000 FS bikes out there. It depends on what you do. Most bikes in that range tend to be heavy and have cheaper components. If you are riding XC, look at an Iron Horse Hollowpoint Sport or Jamis Dakar Sport. If you are into FR then consider a Diamondback XTS (I recently saw one on sale for around $900). Lastly, if you really don't want to spend more than $1000, you should look into used bikes. Try mtbr.com, pinkbike.com, or ebay.com. All have good bikes - at significantly discounted prices from new ones. Good luck.
