Hi,

I have a grant proposal due at a few hours. We are developing a bike skills park and this grant application is to a community foundation in a liberal area with grant focus on kids recreation. We're not sure if mentioning former president Bush is a help or hurt. My search for "famous mountain bikers" here didn't get a thing???

Anybody have a quick list of famous dirt riders?

I'll be searching too but am juggling work and the deadline so help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

P.S. Round 1 of application limits all answers to 500 words not making it any easier.

Thanks, famous people who ride a mountain bikes.

It's a grant funding youth recreation and health life styles. We just wondered if the president would be a bad taste in somebody's mouth or show broad interest in the sport.

Thanks.

They'd have to be pretty bitter not to appreciate that W rode a bike for fun/fitness. Gary Fisher is pretty well known these days in Wisconsin? There was a thread not all that long ago with a list of celebrities who mountain bike....here it is http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=543644
It's ok to use George Bush's name, as long as you don't make it the only name. :)
Sammy Hagar, at least a couple of guys from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Paris Hilton.

Don Johnson
Thanks all. Too late now. Grant app submitted, collective finger cross appreciated and good luck to your own projects!

Well, back in the day, Bike mag ran a profile of probably the least likely MTB'r you could imagine: Rick James. Superfreaky. Maybe not a very good role model, though. That cocaine is a hell of a drug.

Also, I remember reading that Lebron James rides. He sunk a bit of change into Cannondale a while back, IIRC. And Dee Snyder from Twisted Sister had his own signature 24" cruiser model once upon a time called the Widowmaker:

"I wanna Rock...hopper." Sorry. So sorry.

Oh, and also, it seems this topic has been covered here before:

Rick James was a friend of the owner of Marin Bikes. His first gig after his release from prison was at a party sponsored by Marin Bikes at the Interbike trade show in Anaheim.
TINKER!

:)

Btw I do know the OP does not need names now.

I don't see how the celebrity approach angle would help in developing a park.

Missy Giove. Liberals love pot and tolerance for lesbians don't they?

John McEnroe. He would say, build that @*%&@ bike park.

You need 500 words. Convince them Obama is Bush III, then he won't seem bad.

Could you image this gift scenario with Obama? No. He wouldn't know what to do with it. That's un-American, and another 200 words for you.

Gemma Atkinson. British actress/lingerie model.

Conclusion: mountain biking is for misfits and will turn you into a foul mouthed, angry, pot running Republican. Start lying. :D
