My Spot is ruining my riding....

The technical stuff I found challenging before is cake on my Spot. Now, I can't get a rush unless I ride up in the Gorge at Syncline or Post Canyon. I'm not a good technical rider, but the Spot is making me much better.

I have the same problem

Fortunately we have South Mountain in Phoenix with all kinds of nasty, rocky, technical challenges no matter what kind of bike you ride. The spot has made some of my previous trails not very exciting. I am considering getting a single speed to ride on the other trails.
maybe someday I'll have that problem...

But, for now, anything that helps me stay upright & in one contiguous piece, helps the fun factor a lot. I'm loving it.

This is why I'm considering selling my XCE. I really don't have anywhere to ride it locally. that can match it. I thought I would ride it more than I am now instead I always ride my XC soft tail and the XCE just sits and collects dust.
Do What I Did

I have completely lost my edge and now things that were once do-able are now hike-a-bike because I am so nervous and twitchy. Here is what I did. Flip your stem and set up the 5-Spot like an XC bike with a low profile. I had a flipped stem, 24" .75 riser bars, no spacers and a very high saddle. Then go ride some bigger drops. You will endo several times on each ride and get to the point where you feel going down a curb will cause another endo. Now I have lost my edge so much that everything is technical. Of course, I can't ride much because I am injured, but once I start riding more, the trails will be technical beasts.

Hey Dirdir, sounds like you're off the bike? I have been pretty much off it too, due to some back tweakage. Nothing serious, but its talking forever to heal & it pretty much keeps me off. So I've got a grand total of about 2 hours on my shiny new silver Spot, in the 6 weeks I've had it. Stupid too, got carried away the first time I was on it & torqued something saving a bunny hop gone bad.

Driving me nuts, maybe we need an injury commiseration thread around here...
Controversial Dirdir

I have not recently taken any significant time off the bike due to injury, but it is completely true that I have lost my edge due to numerous endo's resulting from, partially at least, my doofus low profile setup. I guess I was embellishing a bit about the injuries to make my point, which really was just another lamo attempt to be controversial (and perhaps funny) to get attention. Sorry to hear about your back and lack of riding.
ahh...I see..

Normally one would insert a platitude like "Happens to the best of us blah blah blah.." Not falling into that "best of us" category, I suppose I shouldn't use the saying. But, I can definitely relate to losing the edge thing, it sure is fickle. Just give it some time, you've got the right frame, with a few tweaks to your setup you'll get your mojo back soon...

See how effectively we've twisted this thread away from the really good riders; I'm not one inclined to be controversial; but I'll help you out this time...
