Just took my '04 Silverado to the dealer yesterday for it's 100k service, and on the test drive (checking a noise in transmission) the technician tried to drive through a stopped car at a red light. I didn't get the full details yet, but no one was injured. They are claiming that the damage is mostly cosmetic, but the front bumper (Steel) is pushed all the way into the passenger side wheel and tire.

I'm waiting at the moment for the insurance adjuster to give a estimate so we can get things moving. I wanted to get some peoples opinions on what to do now, new vehicle, new used, get repairs done? Hopefully I'll get to check out the damage first hand soon along with some pics :madman:

Oh and it is paid off, and had every single option on it.

Let them fix it. If the repairs aren't up to your approval, let them fix it again.

It's paid off. No reason to take on another payment if you don't have to.

I'm with you on this one. I would have them put every dime that the repair would have cost and have that go towards a new (or used) truck. I'm sure you could have some great leverage in this situation.

Without truly knowing the extent of the damage its hard to say, however if the frame is bent (and it sounds like it is), I'd write it off and find another vehicle.

If that Silverado has the same tranny as my '02 Avalanche, you're looking at replacement as that 4L60E tranny is a POS no matter what anyone says. It is undersized for truck duty.
Anyway I'd use the wreck as leverage to get a new(er) vehicle...YMMV

Well just got a call from the dealers insurance company, they wanted to inform me my vehicle was involved in an accident

Oh so that's why I've been driving a rental for the last 8 days. Hopefully they'll get an adjuster out next week.

As for the transmission yes it is a 4L60E, and they didn't have a chance to troubleshoot because the mechanic wanted to try to replicate the noise before tearing into it. Unfortunately instead of a whistle he heard a crash and bang.

I was thinking maybe a 06-07 Cadillac CTS-V with a Kuat rear rack would make for a sweet MTB hauler
