I have been riding my 29er singlespeed regularly now for just over a month, and I have determined that I have a useful skill. While riding said singlespeed, I can detect the slightest upward incline the moment it begins. I imagine this skill could be put to good use; perhaps a surveyor would pay me for my time.

after decades riding a geared mountainbike, I found the slightest incline made my right thumb twitch, but it only lasted for a while and now it is gone completely

Let us know whenever you're able to perceive a slight downward decline... you'll then be a complete singlespeed cyclist. At that point we'll teach you the secret handshake.
