Newbie here, just wanted to introduce myself.

I am a poor 20yr old college kid (cal state univ. of Long Beach) saving up for his next bike. Currently I ride a Trek 3700, I've been using that bike ever since I got into mtb and biking in general . . . a whole 2 months ago  Put some clipless pedals on her and that might be the extent of money I use up modding her. But yeah, I'm loving the sport so far and my legs and skills are increasing fairly rapidly. I work as a waiter a few times of the week for $$ and will probably start to work extra shifts in order to rake in more $$ towards a new bike.

Currently thinking about: jamis dakar sport, kona kikapu, kona dawg, giant nrs3 or giant warp. However I have a bit of time before I have to make a final decision so in the meantime Im gonna do as much research and riding as I can.

So far these have been the best and most populated mtb forums and I look forward to making some friends. :)

Thanks,
George

Welcome to the family and welcome to the addiction. I met some really good friends here, infact we have set up 3 rides a week now. Go check out the local forum if ya wanna meet some really cool a$$ people to ride w/. I have learned everything about bikes through here and a book called zinn and the art of mountain bike maintainence. Your bike sounds fine man, dont let anyone tell you otherwise. I still am riding my first bike, 2001 GF marlin. No upgrades except a saddle bag, clipess and a new crank. Just ride and have fun. Keep the passion!

Holy crap, you're just like me, except that I'm down in San Diego (won't name which college for fear of stalkers. Bleh, stalkers bad! :D ) and my parents bought me a new bike as a present. I'd still be riding my old ride if someone didn't snag it 5 years ago. oh well. If you wanna get a new bike, go for it. All your choices seem really good but the bike you wanna get depends on how it feels on ya. And if you read any posts on anyone looking for suggestions, everyone will tell you that. However, have you looked at any Gary Fishers? I've been loyal to that brand since my first bike, a Mamba. You might like their genesis geometry. go check them out. Anyway, welcome to the sport and happy riding

Welcome to the sport, I have met a couple of riding buddies off of these forums. I'm in long beach too, so, if you wanna ride with us some time, drop me a line. We ride every sunday, and will be doing mid-week el moro rides after work.
