This was a nugget of gold pulled out of the DT callout thread, I felt it deserved its own thread.

My ideal would be HT66,Seat tube 72, BB 14.1", Chainstay 17.1" and 8.5- 9.0lbs frame,1.5 head tube, 150 rear, DHX 5.0 air with pro pedal,180mm travel(with fox 40mm single crown talas 180-150-130). What do you think?

He has a point in that Turner is missing a true FR frame. (Something similar to say the Faith, for example.)

As for me, I want to see a short travel 29er. Something like the Jet 9 (the upcoming one that hopefully won't crack) or the Superfly 100. Crabon if it can be kept in a reasonable price range, though with my budget restrictions I'd prefer aluminum.

What I find sad is that no one seems to have anything to contribute...

No one has any constructive criticisms at all, no ideas for the next bike?

C'mon you homers, us Trance X owners had a 60 something post thread about what we didn't like, and all but one troll of it was civil and helpful.

I do want to help and I am actually seriously considering chopping in the RFX for a Sultan this year and getting my fat ass out on the trails, but I fear it might only be the new year's eve resolutions talking.....

Would it be sacrilege to ask for a mid-priced hardtail? I know it's Turner Suspension Bicycles and all, but I think I might actually buy one. I might even use it.

I think the part you may have missed is that the market for premium priced "freeride" bikes doesn't really exist. At least not in the numbers that would cover the development costs. That is why the Highline is no longer being built. Sales didn't really take off until the price was dropped by 30 or 40 percent. I'm too busy to search for you, but look up some of DT's posts on this subject. He offered to develop a DW Link freeride bike if 100 people put down a deposit of $2K to help fund the development. They would have input into the geometry, with DT having the final decision. Do you know how many people expressed serious interest? Zero.

That interview is well worth listening IMO.

If we learned anything from the HL experience, it's that despite the best feedback/design considerations on the front-end, the original was higher/steeper than what most people wanted in that class of bike. Later iterations of the HL resulted in utilizing a shorter i2i shock (lower bb/slacker ht angle/less travel).

The DW-Spot has just about everything I want in an "all-around" bike... I'd prefer slightly slacker - but it's pretty [email protected] near perfect as is and versatile to boot. I wonder if there's any hope that a bike shop could sponsor a slacker Spot like the Path bike shop did with the El Ciclon?

Fantasy aside, perhaps the new DW RFX will scratch that "slacker" itch.

Maybe a slacker spot with tabs for a schmidt (or any modern chain guard), thru axle rear and a little lower bb, but as has been said, the spot may be the best of breed... I love how the 160 Lyric has slacked it out, and once i put a coil in back, with minions it's a hell of a decender at a hair over 30lbs

Go for the Sultan , Tidy......it spanks and yeah you will want to ride it more often ! :thumbsup:

As far as the hardtail thingy.......well you might check in with Foshizzle for some helpful ideas on that horrible thought , LOL ! Hey speaking of which where has Fo been hiding anyway....No way , out riding the Foskey ? Has he no principles ?

Been on the dw spot over 1 year and have put lots and lots and lots of miles on it on all types of terrain from SoCal to South Mountain/Goat Camp to Sierra single track and granite. This is what I would change about my large.

1* Slacker HT
Slightly Shorter TT to get the extra slack and maintain the same wheel base
5" HT instead of 5.3" - too tall
BB height the same or no more than a .25" lower
TA rear
I wouldn't mind a slightly burlier front triangle - similar to the El Ciclon tube set. I would have no problem with adding a 1/4 - 1/2 pound to the frame

I like it. It seems like a lot of riders have been asking for 5" bikes with slacker geometry. Basically 5" bikes with similar geometry to the current crop of 6+" bikes (RFX, ReignX, Rune, Remedy, etc.); 67* HA, ~73* SA, but with a lower bb.

I think people are realizing they don't need 6" of travel to rip most trails and if they want a longer travel bike they may as well go even slacker than the typical 67* HA.

It sounds like there are a couple bikes coming out in the near future. The Spitfire and the Evil 140 mm bike come to mind. Could also go custom Ventana.

I agree a slacker 5 Spot would be the call. I know I could run a longer fork on the current model, but this raises the BB and slackens the seat angle. No good for me. Will it ever happen? Probably not.

Hopefully the manufacturers will catch on soon.

I agree, lots of travel isn't needed to rip. IMO the DW provides quality travel. I wouldn't say this bike is limited by its travel. It's usually down the very steep stuff with the HA or in the burliness of the front triangle.

Actaully agree. The Sultan and spot seem really close in purpose to me. So beef up the spot and RFX.

They never ever have any constructive anything except to make fun of those they disagree with. TN Carpenter is older then death and can make cute little movies...
