Ill start off with a little background on myself as that makes the most sense. I am 6'3" 210lbs novice to intermediate rider. I got my start on bmx when i was younger. I currently have a 23lb Ti Phantom motobecane 29er hard tail, its somewhere around 23 lbs. I am a trail rider mostly and love carving out single track.
so now onto the build! I havent bought anything yet and these are all just plans so far. If you have a better idea on something please let me know im messin up! I will include the prices I have been quoted as I also want some help cutting the price down a bit if possible and if you know a cheaper way... Definitely let me know!
A few things I deff want are the 1X and dropper post

santa cruz alu frame xl $1950.00
Revelation RCT3 SoloA 140 27.5" 15 T1.5 $663.00
XT CS-M771 Cassette 10-spd 11x36 $76.49
Shimano XT M786 Shadow+ 10-Speed Der SGS $107.99
Shimano XT SL-M780-10 Rapidfire Shifters $152.99
SRAM XX1 Carbon Crankset 156Q 32T 170mm $251.99
Sram GXP Team Bottom Bracket English $32.39
SRAM XO Disc Brake 160mm HS1 Rear $170.99
SRAM XO Disc Brake 180mm HS1 Front $170.99
Shimano 160mm P/S Rear Disc Adaptor $8.99
Hope T-Rex RExpander Sprocket 40T Silver $86.39
NoThreadSet InSet3 Mixed Tapered Black $143.09
Douglas Carbon 1-1/8" Headset Spacer Kit $13.49
RockShox Reverb Seatpost 420mm 30.9mm $369.99
Fatbar Lite Alum Riser Bar 31.8mm 20mm $84.99
Renthal Lock-On Medium Charcoal Grips $29.99
Light Bike carbon 27.5 wheelset with hope 2 hubs $762.00

I still need some small things that are missing from the list. Honestly I started off trying to keep the build under 4K, it is a tad over budget lol. I am currently at $5262 and wold like to cut some fat off the build cost.

Thanks a ton in advance guys!

Hey bro . Good plan you have there . Here's my 0.02

If you are not particular with wheels , why not sacrifice carbon LB hoops for carbon 5010 frame ?

Also , you should be able to obtain cheaper parts from German online retailer (bike24) . Depends on your country's gst/vat and import duty . Point of reference , Revelation only costs $500 ish from them .

I've also recently managed to obtain a crank bros Iodine carbon bars for like $80 ish via cycling express .

Good luck !

I'm in the US if this helps. Why would you go with the frame and not the wheels? the weight savings on the frame aren't significant. And do you have any other sites you suggest I check out for better deals? Foreign or domestic. Thank you for your input!

If you're going with a 1x set up why not go with the gs rear derailleur? You shouldn't need the long cage. Also after riding both avid and shimano brakes I would pick xt's, just my $0.02. Sweet build though!

Carbon Frame > Wheelset at any time for me . That's a personal preference .

As for your build , why not consider the following to shave some dollars off ?

Headset : CaneCreek 40
Groupset : Full Zee Groupo inc Brakes ($600-700ish?)
Wheelset : So many choices, probably a Mavic Crossroc?

After a few few failed sets of Avid XX World Cup brakes, Avid sent me a set of XO Trail brakes, while slightly heavier, these brakes have been amazing, actually had to downsize my rear rotor, 160mm-140mm, they also have been trouble free for 10 months.
I would get the carbon frame instead of the carbon wheels at this point, the frame is stiffer/ lighter and much more easier to upgrage wheels in the future then to upgrade the frame.
You said your going to use 170mm cranks, why? At 6'3" I would be on at least 175's, maybe even 177.5 or 180's

Definitely don't want 180s with the BB height on that frame. Should stick with 175s. And you need the wider Q factor.

Some of this stuff is just taste. I'd save money at the headset with a CC40. I'd save money at the brakes with XT (unless those quoted prices include rotors). Try Biker Bob for your fork; should be able to save some money there.

You don't need both shifters if you're running 1x, so just buy one. No saddle in your list.

170 is what was in stock so i was quoted for that length. def not going with that length. something like 175. and yes just getting one shifter. and those brakes come with new HS1 rotors. Q168 on the cranks noted as well as the headset thanks! this is exactly the input i was looking for. keep it coming!

My preferences:

175mm cranks

Your 1X10 Conversion is still pricey and for an extra 2 hundy you can have a X01 full. Email bikerbob.com or piece it out on ebay. I did full XX1 for under 1K - 900 is within possibility if you are extremely patient but it's a time suck.

My preference is XT brakes over the SRAM stuff

I'd also skimp on the headset and do the Cane Creek and instead of the al. bar go with a Carbon Easton option.

That's my take....Good luck. Nice bike!

Jenson USA has your fork for $550 or you could get an X Fusion Sweep for $465

Shop around and you'll find your XT drivetrain bits for 1/2 of what you have listed above.

Competitive Cyclist has Sram X9 cranks for $166. Remove the spider, add a single ring and you have your 1x crankset. Not as sexy or light as carbon but saves you $50 bucks.

Cane Creek headset for $60 bucks

Quick Google search shows Reverbs under $300

I tend to agree that the XT brakes are worth a look. You could get the pair for the price of 1 X0. I cant imagine the weight difference is worth the extra $

What are you doing for tires?

the dif in wheelset costs wont offset the dif in price from carbon to alu. and how does the zee compare to what i have chosen? i read up on the set slightly and it looks to be a gravity setup.

While the Zees are essentially a gravity line , it is still the best bang for buck if you decide to go 1x . It's reasonably priced , and you get the ' exclusiveness ' since less ppl is running it .

Check local bike store for tires , they will know better . What are you riding now anyway ?

I have a recent 5010 build that probably cost similar to yours and did:
1. carbon frame
2. 130/160 Talas fork
3. used xt triple crank, running single 32 narrow/wide ring. The cranks are cheap because so many people are upgrading to 1x11
4. 10 spd cassette w/42 cog. A little shy on overall top speed, but this is only an issue on the road, so who cares?
5. xt brakes
The rest is irrelevant in terms of this thread-just that I am very happy with the above. The 5010 is capable enough that I think it deserves the bigger fork-if I was starting over I might go with a non-adjustable Pike as I don't think climbing is hurt with the fork extended, except maybe a bit on fireroads. Gearing is fine, even for a fat guy. Shimano brakes are amazing, every time and I've never overheated them, which I cannot say about Avids.
