The plan goes something like this... Build a bike over the winter, for AM/some FR stuff next summer... Of course thats just the "plan" and they tend to change a bit over time.

BUT, I have started to move in that direction! I'm starting with a somewhat cheap AM ::Frame::

It got here today (7-12-10) so I thought id get this thread going, and I can add to it over time as the mailman brings me more and more goodies.

So far whats on its way:

Frame: Sette Flite
Pedals: Nuke Proof Protons
Seat: Nuke Proof Plasma

And thats all ladies and gentlemen for the first post! lol. I'm in the market for a 160mm fork next and the rest of the parts will be ordered as I have the money/find good deals used or new. Ill update with actual build pictures once theres something fun to see :thumbsup:

P.S. Suggestions are very welcome, and so is constructive criticism, but please keep the flaming to a minimum :) this is my first MTB build-up

Dunno.. Thats how it came out of the box. Does it matter performance wise? I'll flip it regardless... but just curious.

performance wise i dont think it matters but having it flipped like that you are a little more likely to gunk up the seals (due to gravity).

Sette does this IIRC because the linkage at the top can make getting at the shock adjustments kind of hard. The linkage has different holes for differing amounts of travel and on specific ones the shock adjustments can interfere with the linkage.

It doesnt affect performance. I know on some bikes they have it a certain way because it simply won't fit the other way. It may have some clearance issues with the fulcrum (yes, I just said fulcrum), the place that the suspension link is connected to the frame.

Performance is the same for both shock orientations.

It's flipped so the frame does not snap the swivel air valve. Flip it so the valve is at the top if you want to get dirt from getting in and staying in due to gravity. You can still access the valve. Just use a rubber band so it doesn't move while riding and gets caught in the suspension and snaps.

The Monarch is a nice shock. I like my 4.2 and don't plan on switching it out. For a bombproof 160mm fork I recommend the coil Domain 318. Very tough and not expensive.
For crankset I recommend the Shimano SLX.

Thanks for the reco Dictatorsaurus! I appreciate the input. Ive heard mixed reviews about the 3.1 shock... actually... mainly all bad because of some factory defects, but its covered under warranty, and ive heard most of the time SRAM will end up upgrading you to the 4.2 if you have issues, so ill have to see. I only ask on the rear shock because im about 200lbs and wasnt sure if it would handle that kind of weight. Ill check out the forks and cranks.. Thanks again!

Calles, I saw you posted in my build-up thread and were asking for recommendations.

First off, congrats on the Flite and don't let anyone give you guff about it - It is a fantastic frame for the price :thumbsup:

You can check out my build list for recommendations as I carefully researched every part and balanced it with price and reliability and I can honestly say I wouldn't change anything except for the post (a drop post wold be nice but $$) and the fork (as a stock one) - If I had the $$ at the time (or now), I'd rather have a Totem or even a Domain 318. BUT!!!, I did do the most excellent shim-stack mod by Mr.P and have no complaints (especially for what I spent).

* Frame: 18" Sette Flite
* Fork: Marzocchi 55-TST2 (shim-stack modded)
* Shock: Manitou Swinger 4X
* Brakes: Avid BB7 (SD7 Levers)
* Cranks: Holzfeller OCT 2.2RG
* Pedals: Time ATAC Alium
* Bottom Bracket: Howitzer XR
* Front Derailleur: Shimano XT
* Rear Derailleur: Shimano XT (Low-Normal)
* Stem: Sette Edge
* Handlebar: Easton MonkeyLite XC
* Grips: ODI Yeti (locking)
* Shifters: SRAM MRX-Comp (twist)
* Bar Ends: Sette XE
* Seatpost: Kore I-Beam
* Saddle: SDG I-Fly
* Cassette: SRAM PG-850 ( 8-SPEED!!! :rockon: )
* Headset: Cane Creek ZS-110
* Tires: Panaracer Fire FR 2.4
* Rims: WTB FX28
* Rear Hub: Shimano XT M756
* Front Hub: Sette 20mm T/A

Try and keep the bike as black and white as possible. Don't go and get like red grips or an overly decalled fork. That would look insaaane if you could keep it simple....

Fork: http://www.marzocchi.com/template/d...8&idC=1561&IdFolder=113&uf=IU&IdOggetto=56806

heh...the link kinda says ghetto :p
Sorrry, but I kinda have a lot of time on my hands, so Ill post some links of parts I think would fit the build, or this how I would build it if I had an unlimited budget :D

Wheels: http://www.bicyclewheelwarehouse.com/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=123&added=1

Crankset: http://www.sram.com/en/truvativ/trailallmountain/stylo/22am.php

Brakes: (you can get them in white) http://www.sram.com/en/avid/hydraulicdiscbrakes/elixirr.php

Shifters/Derailleurs: http://www.sram.com/en/srammountain/components/x9/index.php

Cassette: http://www.sram.com/en/srammountain/cassettes/9speed/pg980.php

I'll say this again, for the lasting effect: I put these specific parts here because that is how I would build the bike if I was on an unlimited budget. I know these may be a tad out of your budgeet, but maybe you can use some of the products or at least use the links to check out another product...

I forgot who it was - but someone suggested it would be better if it did (essentially)

He was making fun of your bike right after posting a thread talking about his cracked GT frame. He was just kidding about your bike still ironic though. Ihave strange selective memory.
Well, Between both of us, I think we can remember half of half of everything!
I have a sieve for a memory collector :skep:
