looks like i'm a member of the club now...
(btw, how long has this forum existed? just noticed it a few days back.)

anyway, picked up a 1996 Bontrager Ti Lite at the end of last year, and over the winter decided it would make a good project bike. i spent a weekend in cali on an intense spider 29'er (loved it), but was most impressed by the larger front wheel and the added stability on tight switchback/technical climbing. so i thought i'd give this concept a whirl...

custom fork by waltworks and wheelset laced by mikesee.

i've already had it out for a few rides and it is fun fun fun (and fast fast fast). :thumbsup:

Looks good. How much did the big wheel up front change the geo? I'm assuming the fork was made to be as short as possible (sure looks like it) to compensate. Enjoy.

That Bonty is sweet! No Toe overlap issues? what rake and axle to crown height did you have Walt use for the custom fork?

a tad slacker, as i lost about 1.5˚ (HA just under 70 now)
wheelbase is +1".

a/c is 417 and rake is 48mm

Did you go to a smaller rear tire to keep the same BB height, despite a slacker HTA?

no, not purposefully anyhow. rather i think the significant fork offset helps to keep things in check (the main reason i went custom).

speaking of tires: wish i woulda done some research first; thought i'd keep it in the family so picked up a set of bonty jones xr, one in 26 and one in 29. didn't take long at all before i tore a sidewall-- just as all the reviews here say to expect. :madman:
